Yeah, they added water and some mudflaps, and made the Caliber a Patriot.

DO you really believe that?

Sharing a platform- or even some base DNA- doesn't tell the whole story.

I don't mid some of the car DNA- the Patriot is easy and fun to drive, and you know my mantra:

I LOVE THE MILEAGE.

And the new Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango are just rebadged Mercedes, since they share the same platform.
Well don't forget the possible Maserati that will be riding on the grand cherokee chasis with ferrari motors. Also heard rumors of an Alfa being based on this platform as well.

The Sebring/200/avenger platform is derived from the compass/caliber platform.

Platform sharing has existed since the 60's. There are a number of great reasons to share a platform and very few real downsides to the consumer. This whole "it's just a caliber/mitsubishi" doesn't really matter to me. There are more then enough changes made between vehicles to make each one unique.

 There are how many 60+ mpg vehicles available anywhere on the Earth with this kind of cargo capacity and 4 wheel drive? Comparing a Jeep to a Mo-Ped isn't even rational or fair.
have faith...we'll get there!

They got a man on the moon when they really wanted to :D

(p.s my 2 tonne 5 Series BMW SE D gets 60.1 mpg at 80 mph on the motorway) :notworthy:

I looked went into Jeep 2 weeks ago looking for a patriot. They tried to get me into a Compass instead. I just couldn't do it. It looks too much like a minivan. I love the look and feel of the patriot. A great ride, great mileage and a great Jeep!

I think the 2011 Compass is now very much like the Patriot as far as running goes, but I think they have given you a choice. Like the Jeep look? It's the Patriot. Like a mini Grand Cherokee look, it's the compass. for me, I prefer the utility squared off look of the Patriot.

My wife cannot warm up to my Patriot and I don't think there is anything she likes about it. I was complaining how Consumers knocked it when they talked about the poor driving position and told her how I loved the seating position. She agreed with consumers and does not like the driving position, the visibility, the noise, etc. She has a 2003 Toyota Camry that I got her for her birthday and has no intention of selling it until it falls apart, which may be in 100 years because the car runs beautifully. I, on the other hand, cannot not stand the driving position of the Toyota or the seats and will not use it for a long drive. I do have to agree with her on the rest of the things she loves about the Camry, it's a great running car. Se La Vie.

I like the front of the new Compass but not the back. I think this is what they should have done with the Patriot:

Sorry.. I didn't use photo shop but you get the idea.

HI all.

I test drove a 2011 Patriot and a 2011 Compass last week. I went to dealer with the intent of buying the Compass but I was shocked to see that the Patriot that I thought was ugly on the internet was beautiful in person.

Things got tough at that point...

Really though, they felt identical. The Patriot seemed to have better cargo space. It had a functional look to it also and better visibility. Also, I felt like I had a 'real' Jeep while I test drove it and not a wannabe-luxury-vehicle like I did in the Compass.

In the end.. I bought the Compass. I realized that in my life, which involves very little cargo hauling and very much the need to look 'professional', the Compass just made more sense. I had to look at the big picture...

And now I'm a Jeep lover for life.

i first saw the patriot on the road about 3 years ago and fell in love with the design. at the time my old car was failing and bought the patriot weeks later. my friend wanted me to get the compass...did some googling and saw the design....looks girly to me (imo)

Brochures for Compass are in the dealers, also I know this isn't relevant but given the mention about the Outlander platform does that mean that Outlander suspension can be used on a Patriot to gain greater ground clearance? I know wrong thread etc to ask but I'm intrigued now!

Apologies for hijacking the thread!
