Thanks to a garbage scraper this winter I scratched my windshield a few times and it's bugging me. The scratches aren't deep enough that my fingernail catches when I run it across the windshield so the damage isn't too bad.

From what I've read on the web I can either buff the scratches out or use a paste to "sand down" the area of the scratches.

Or...could something like this work?

Call your insurance company they may be able to help find someone that can repair it.

True, but I'm looking for a more DIY approach.

I've never done this for a windshield, but it works great on watch crystals, and that's to use toothpaste and a damp cotton rag to buff out the scratches. Apply even pressure and rub in small circles. This won't work if the scratches are deep, but you could try.

I used that on my watch as well... works like a charm. My wifes eye glasses were scratched up pretty , so I tried it on them... it made it worse :) (yeah I know... but since they were already unusable I figured it was worth a shot)
