So here is the issue. It happened 2 times today for the first time.

It is 0 degrees Celcius, raining/snowing, very slushy.

I am at a red light, as soon as tap the pedal to go, there was no response, and it stuttered and started up. So I figure it might just be my shoes, didn't push hard enough on the accelerator pedal.

Here I am at the next red light, this time I had my foot on the brake, the street light goes green and I see the RPM stuttering around 500rpm and the whole engine shook, I honestly thought I was going to stall, so I hit the gas pedal and the car shuttered again. It felt like I was in a manual. No Check Engine Light

Those are the 2 encounters I had. I tried to replicate the issue after with no luck. I am able to pedal-to-the-metal and hold at 6000rpm no problems and it picks up no problem, seems fine now.

I used fuel injector cleaner (Motormaster) about 1 month ago. I filled up today at Husky gas station which is what I normally put (87 Octane).

So I am at 80,000km and apparently the spark plugs may have never been changed as I purchased it from JEEP dealer at 62,000km and they have no record of it being changed there. I wish they told me or at least changed it before selling as a used vehicle. I purchased NGK G-POWER Spark Plugs today and will install them tommorow which will be gapped at 0.44.

The battery is fine. Did a test and it was 14.4v when the car was turned on and at 12.85v when off.

I know this is long but anyone experience this issue? What can it be?

2007, CVT, FWD, 5W20 Quaker State Full Synthethic.

Thanks,

you aren't alone on this issue, I think the reason was if you "overfill" at the gas pump, you end up guming up or clogging some sort of gas filter or something around there...which will cause the issue, I'm not sure what the exact terminology is but there is a thread on it here somewhere...hope this helped a little...

I filled up 25 liters of gas only. I normal fillup from the empty is about 45Liters for me. So I definately didn't overfill.

Fuel filter being dirty? Thats a possibility, I will research how to change that.

Any other suggestions?

Others experiencing this too?

Fuel filter is in the tank....probably difficult to do at home. Change the plugs and air filter, both easy DIY projects.

you can't change the fuel filter its a screen on the pump i believe. I had the same problem as you and I haven't figured out what it is. I've giving it a tune up (plugs) and i've had the fuel systems cleaned at the dealership. it hasn't done it in a while but some other thread said to change the PCV valve. I havn't done that yet.

Update

So heres the update...

I changed new spark plugs yesturday (NGK Platinum). Took 20 mins. Can idles quieter forsure.

The car stuttered once after changing spark plugs after driving about 10km.

Eversince than it hasn't stuttered, I manage to use up almost all the gas in the tank and filled up another 10 liters which I am almost about to finish also.

So far, so good, maybe it was the Husky gas quality as my dads hyundai tucson stalled this morning after starting up and he got his check engine light. What a coincidence.

But the RPM needle does idle at like 550rpm. Is that normal? Seems a little too low?

Check out the pic!

Isn't the plugs suppose to be changed at 30K miles? IDK what that is in KM but I know according to the book its 30K miles I am pretty sure.
I do everything according to the book.
I got a lifetime warranty and plan to milk them dry unless my 7 yo son totals it.

It is suppose to be changed 50000km which is probably equivalent to 30000miles.

But I purchased the car at 62000km, I assumed it was changed already. The car has 80000km on it now. So when I asked Jeep, they have no record of it being done by them... so I cant be sure if the original owner did it himself or through a small shop. But either way I changed it! Runs a little better now so I am happy! Will change every year!

I've had a similar issue with engine stuttering when at idle and it's raining. I took it into my local dealer. They suggested the same issue with the filter gumming up and to change the spark plugs (i'm at 38,000kms) for $360. I must admit I think I used to over fill the tank. Now, once the pump stops I don't try to keep topping it up. I hope the problem doesn't return.

I had a "shuttering" problem before, as well. Mine was as you let off the throttle and coasted a bit, and then applied throttle again. I would almost describe it as the engine or tranny banging around. If I quickly let off the throttle and then apply it again, it would usually accelerate normal. I was worried that the transmission had problems, so I took it to the dealer, and they said it was just the throttle body was extremely carboned up. They cleaned it, and I have not had the problem since.

aemlet, thats another issue also. I know what you are talking about when you let off the throttle and coast then throttle again. I think that's trans related. I don't think its a problem its just how the trans works. With out gears i think it struggles to pick up the correct speed. any how i don't know much about the cvt's but i beleive its just a steel belt moving on a cone like pully just like snowmobiles.
