Hi there,

I've had my 2011 Patriot for under 1 month, and yesterday I was horrified to have the radio freeze on me for a while upon starting the car. The screen was white, and I couldn't shut it off via the knob, nor could I change channels via the steering wheel buttons. I could only turn the volume up or down manually.

It would then go to black, shut off, come back on, doing this off and on for the drive. I stopped the ignition at a stoplight to try to reset it, but I only had it off for a few seconds and starting it back up didn't fix it. I then parked the car for about 7 hours at work, and when I returned it was back to normal.

Has anyone experienced this? I have a service appointment for Wednesday, but wondering if I should bother now that it's OK. Though I'm very uneasy about it now.

Thanks for your insight!

It's most likely a software issue. Mention it to the dealer for sure. If the software on there is anything like for any other electronic device, they might reload the image of the software onto the radio or reflash the firmware... whichever's best.

Thanks for that advice, SilverSlimer. I was afraid to bring it in and have them mess it up more somehow. But that makes sense that it may need to be reloaded.

My husband has the 2011 Grand Cherokee and this hasn't happened to him yet. Though, they're both the same age so neither one of us has had ours longer.

Thanks again.

I've had this happen on my 2010 and I had the same reaction when it froze. It froze on the Jeep logo. I think I held the power button in for a couple of seconds till it restarted. If that doesn't work if u shut the ignition off and give it 5 minutes for the power to turn off. That should fix it. The stereo is a computer so sometimes it does need to be restarted.
