So are you guys saying that my 2010 Jeep Patriot North Edition has a block heater? That's great because I completely forgot to order one with the car. If it's standard, that's fantastic. I baby this car more than I do my wife.

Heater cord deal at CTC - a steal

Rumor of a 60% off deal for 10 m extension cord for engine block heater this weekend in GTA. Must get Gas coupon. So fill-up at Cdn Tires starting Friday.

FYI Heater cord is claded in blue special rubber that resist cracking in cold temperature. Garden variety orange/yellow xtension cords may damage in cold.

The last time I went into a Canadian Tire and asked for a battery blanket they looked at me like I had two heads.
That's bloody odd. Up here in Sudbury I saw at least two different brands of battery blankets on the shelf and they have them on CT's web site.

Glad to hear that Cdn Pats come with block heaters.

I've frozen two batteries over the past few years. Typically though we dont worry about plugging in cars until it gets bellow -20 C. -3 C would be a mild winter day in Ottawa. At one point I used to also add a battery blanket to the mix but they seem to have gone out of fashion.

FYI: Any vehicle sold in Canada must have DRL, a speedo that reads predominately in kms, an engine bloack heater & a rear window defroster. I have no idea why they sell vehicles in Canada with air conditioning. We only have maybe a month or really hot weather.

I haven't yet found my engine block heater's cord yet but now I have an idea just where to look; under the battery cover or near the fuse block.

I'm old enough to remember battery blankets. Back in the day when I couldn't afford a new battery I would wrap the old tired battery with an electric battery blanket. A warm battery puts out more current than a cold one. I doubt they would actually freeze. It would have to be pretty darn cold to do that.
