can't seem to make up my mind on installing or not installing a brush bar.
found a quite simple black one on ebay, but i really can't make up my mind.
i thought of black because it looks better with bright silver, as the jeep has black accents on the body (door handles, side mirrors, rear bumper stepper).
i think chrome goes nice on dark colours, for the contrast.
i just can't make up my mind and can't decide.
any thoughts on brush bars that might help me decide?

The ones I've seen for the Patriot just don;t seem good enough for me. They take away from the approach angle, and some look like they would cause more damage if you hit something with them. And they don't look like they would be much help for brush.

exactly what i am thinking of.
and they aren't exactly esthetic,i mean nothing fancy....
came accros this one on the local market.
they said they don't have the fittings for a patriot ,but they can take a look and surely they can work something out, they said (they cam make some custom fittings if necesary).
what do you think?

What someone should make (and I can hope there's a fabricator reading this) is a replacement for the skid plate that has something like you pictured on the front of it. Uses the same attachment points as the skid plate, and replaces the stock plate (or adds a nice metal one for those without it) and protects the front without hurting the approach angle, and adds protection the front, and a place to mount lights, and maybe a winch.

Now that one I would buy.

Well, here's my $.02. Generally speaking, these are not off road accessories. On the trails you shouldn't use you vehicle to bash through stuff. A chainsaw is a better investment. Sometimes these bars can also hook on to and start dragging fallen branches and brush, kinda defeating their supposed purpose.

The beefy bars serve a different purpose. They're designed to protect vehicles that may operate in remote areas where a collision with a large animal could disable your vehicle many miles from any help. Keeping your vehicle drivable after such an encounter could be a matter of survival. As Dixie mentioned, they can be a good place to mount a winch, making a solo recovery from a stuck possible.

The bars I've seen for the Patriot are just a cosmetic accessory. Other than a place to mount some lights, they serve no real function.

Definitely get a grille/brush guard but hold off on it. Bull guards look gay on the Patriot, I have seen plenty and talking to their owners, they honestly seem regretful in buying/installing them on. But once you spent the money, well you kinda want to use it. http://www.jeeppatriot.com/forum/showthread.php?t=65217
