Okay so I know the Jeep Patriot is technically an SUV four wheel drive yada yada I myself have a 2009 Jeep Patriot and think its great but here is where my SUV question comes into play. Things like at the parking garage some garages charge in NYC charge the Suv rate which I no longer frequent while others charge a car rate which I think is far as I have seen my car next to other cars such as a cadillac and it doesn't take up anywhere near as much space. Just last week I watched my car go through the car wash where I was dumb founded to find I was charged an extra SUV fee of 2 dollars while a Grand Marquis skated through with the regular car fee. I get suv fees when they come into play on cars like Escalades of Ford F-150 extended cabs and that sort of nonsense but a car as small and compact as the Patriot is the fair? Any thoughts?

I suppose we've all just got to hang on and keep the faith. As each month goes by this whole Global Warming fiasco is running more and more out of steam. Whole nations are beginning to pull out of the mad circus; Denmark, Spain, Germany spending less and less on wind-farms, the Carbon Exchange all but collapsed...
The worrying thing is that these loopy-doops do not just do the decent thing and fade away. When Climate Change is all fashionable history, like the Nuclear Winter, SARS, bird flu and The Millenium Bug, something just as crazy, as yet undreamed of, will be filling the newspapers.
Anyone like to open the betting as to what? My guess is a Carrington Event. A huge solar flare that'll burn out all our microchips and send us all back to the dark ages.

Jayz, I wish I could remember where I stashed that old valve TV set.....

As the Patriot is based on a small car platform ie. the Caliber. It should be classed as a small station wagon!

Rocal, I've got an emergency wind -up radio somewhere.

Those SUV extra rates suck. I still have my 03 Tracker, and I had 2 others before it, and now have the Jeep too. The Tracker and Jeep are smaller than a lot of cars, but some places, like car washes, want to charge more. I just avoid those places. The first time a car wash wanted to charge me more, I made then back everyone up behind me so I could leave.

Maybe if we all refuse those places they will change, but I doubt it.

No. Those charges are off base. But what are you going to do about it? Basically they can run their business any way they want. I've often joked about giving an American car or Jeep discount to customers who pull up in a "good" vehicle.

Any SUV up charge should stay in the mechanic's garage where it makes some sense in servicing the 4x4 systems.

I've never seen that foolishness in Minnesota. We have plenty of other crazy rules, but not that one yet! LOL

As long as the car fits in the parking garage, it is all one price here. As for car washes, I have never seen pricing that is depended on the style of vehicule you are driving.
The only time I have ever seen different prices is for undercoating - the bigger the car the more it costs.
I would avoid a car wash/ parking garage that charges based on the "class" of the car.

Well, I do just call it the Jeep, and since I do have a truck, never refer to it as a truck. But never refer to it as a station wagon either. I've had those in the past, and this is not a wagon IMHO.

Just sucks that they want to treat this little Jeep like a Chevy Tahoe or something big.

I do car detailing and when cleaning a car like a cadi the interior is a lot smaller then a patriot to clean there is not as much space. so even a patriot would get the SUV charge at my business. The Patriot also has a lot more body area and to wax the roof you need a stool. I dont know about car washes tho. when i wash cars i charge a uniform rate for all cars.

Maybe a cts or something of that nature would be about same interior space wise but a big ass dts or old school deville I would imagine has much more interior space unless you include the cargo area which I would imagine is similar to a cadillac's trunk I'm just sick of added fees two out of three car washes around here charging a fee for an suv. Sure its only 2 dollars but still. Then when driving in NYC the suv fees become a real rip off most times they have enough sense not to be jerks and charge an extra 3-5 dollar suv fee but sometimes theyll gouge you

x3 on the station wagon classification.

And I've had car washes try and charge extra for an SUV too. I go to the same car wash over and over though. They added the charge once. I talked them out of it. And they've never asked again. :)
