Can someone tell me about these fall and winter meets? What types of locations are they? Are they camping friendly? Are these events kid-friendly? If I'm a novice off-roader will I have trouble keeping up (this is my first 4X4)? I understand the fall trip is likely off, but I might be swayed into a winter trip. You can PM me with the info if you don't want to litter this thread with it.

zeeter, last year we had a winter meet for a few of us. I did some exploring with friends, driving on some snow covered forest roads (had to dig myself out of a few ditches, but I like to learn the capabilities of my vehicle before I really need them... :) ). On Saturday we met up at a diner and had a meal, drove around, and eventually tackled Dixie's driveway (steep snowmobile trail). This is my first 4x4 as well so it took me a couple of tries to get up his driveway, but it was a fun learning experience. We then hung out and BSed and had a couple of drinks at Dixie's and my friends and I went back to our place (we stayed at the Sweeden Valley Inn) and had some beers...

Overall a relaxing meet and greet with very very limited offroading (unless you go out and do it on your own like I did). Now on the Central PA trail ride that I was a part of about 1.5 years ago, we road on state forrest roads and looked for fun mud puddles, etc, to play in with our jeeps. Most (if not all) of us camped at the state park for that one (Pine Grove Forest State Park).

If we get together, I'll be sure to post it in the "Meet & Greet / Trail Runs" area.

It's beautiful in the mountains today, I had a nice ride home this morning, the foliage is pretty prime.

My driveway is in bad shape too, would be tough in the snow right now. I hope to get it better before winter hits.

I haven't had to time this summer to explore for trails, although I have found some on the topo maps.

There's an "unimproved road" on the game lands nearby, might make a tough trail in winter. Check out the map:

Anyone want to suggest a weekend this winter?

Damn that did sound like me? I could swear I even posted that exact post? Oh well, have had a few beautiful days here in the mountains. Cold, but last two days were high clear blue skies, supposed to get snow by the end of the week. Not seeing the buck I want to take, but the rut is starting to come on strong now, so hope for a chance.

Took the shotgun out for a walk this afternoon, had 3 grouse flushes, but all too far for a shot. What a great afternoon for a walk though. Had grouse flying overhead, and saw a nice sunset.

OK well since fall is soon over what are the plans for a winter meet?

Fall is going to be rough for me because we just got a new place, so I'm broke.

Winter is a possibility tho.
The are os just so beautiful in fall, winter is short days. But hell, maybe someone will bring a snowmobile, or cross country skis. There is a downhill ski are nearby too, Ski Denton, but my downhill days are over with my knees. We could do some sledding though on the hills. Maybe a campf
