got new pat today. we do jvc and fusion and want to replace stock speakers...took 1 our 15 watt??????????? 3 way 6x9 won't work...any ideas....

2 sets that I remember people reporting as verified fitting 6x9's are the Kicker upgrades and Pioneer 6972's.

I have 6982's on the way. They are 7mm deeper than the 72's so finger's crossed. I will report about their fit once installed.

Jim

I installed the Pioneers that you mentioned in the rear and some INFINITY KAPPA 692.7i 6x9's in the front. The Pioneers fit perfectly and the Infinitys fit without modification, but took some elbow grease to get the screw holes to line up... I'm just kind of shocked that the stock speakers started distorting after 2 months of ownership. It sounded like the woofer seperated from the voice coil. All the lows were making a weird paper crinkle sound/ vibration....

The 6972's or the 6982's?

Thanks.

I have some Infinty 1" 10.7t's for the dash waitin in a box. Gonna wait to to install all together.

After only 4 weeks of ownership, I have already experienced the distortion you speak of from the right rear. Looks like its time for some Pioneers.

Did you pay $99.95 or did you get a better deal for a pair?
You can find them new in box unopened on eBay for half that or a little more.

I went with the slightly more expensive 82's because they have rubber surrounds as opposed to cloth and are suppose to last longer in a vehicle and give better response. Now to just see if they fit....

OK Jimmy, give em' hell, we're rootin' for ya. let us know how the installation goes, because I think I'll be getting the 6982's myself, if the standard speakers ain't up to snuff.:smiley_thumbs_up:

front driver side speaker is already distorting for me...2 weeks old. I plan on upgrading it all anyways so no big deal, just disappointing.

I got the 6972's on eBay for $45 plus $20 shipping. The front is more restrictive as far as depth goes due to the window interference when rolled all the way down. I used the "outfit my car" feature on crutchfield.com and then found the same speaker on ebay for half price. I purchased the wiring harnesses from crutchfield because my Pat is a lease and I didn't want to cut any wires. I went to 3 places around here (Best Buy and 2 local car audio shops) and they all didn't carry the harnesses, they just told me to cut the wires...that's why I went with crutchfield....

when you say you didn't want to cut wires, does that mean in order to hook these up there is cutting involved? i imagined it being like a plug/unplug thing...but i am also not well-versed in car audio installation. how does the wiring harness make things different?

Stock speakers have a harness that they plug into. When you get aftermarket speakers you need to do 1 of 2 things. a.)Cut the wire harness off and connect the + and - terminals using speaker wire or the existing wires if possible or b.) buy a wire harness that fits your vehicle for aftermarket speakers (http://www.crutchfield.com/S-2Yz5GgvCWba/cgi-bin/prodview.asp?i=12071050&s=0&cc=01 a) and connect one end to the speakers and the other to the factory harness to provide a connection without cutting the existing wires.

i thought thats how it would go, but thanks for making it exceptionally clear for me. i appreciate the help, now only to buy the stuff.

I grabbed 2 pair of 6982's new in unopened box on eBay for $140 shipped from a seller named millionbuy.

You may want to hold off and see if mine fit tho.
I see the 82's are actually 13(!) mm deeper than the 72's. Not sure how tight the 72 fit was but 13mm is a lot in door depth installation.

I may be putting the four 6982's right back up on eBay.

Thanks for the heads up! Hope it fits for your sake.

Thanks for the replies.

Got Patriot on Fri afternoon. visited friends in Newcastle upon tyne , england at the weekend and did 450 miles...average 41miles per gallon. great on the journey..lots of go for overtaking.

just finished fitting 6x9's. had to go for 280 watt JVC CSV6934 all round as the fusion 300watt powerplant's were too deep and did't want to cut the door trim.cost me around $35 per pair as we had a special deal on them. miss typed 1st post..my point was that the stock speakers are 15 watt!!!not much use.

sound much better for very little money.

will try to get some pics posted of my uk spec car soon.

mark.
