Patriot w/o EVIC... radio display

I have a limited without the EVIC installed. (Its funny because it had evey option except for the nav and EVIC... yet I'm sure I'll use those heated leather seats in Florida! :( ) I really had no choice as there were only 2 patriots left on the lot and I wanted the Limited, not the sport. I researching the forum, it appears that if I were to get the ScanGuageII, it will perform most of the functions of the EVIC. That is something I might consider purchasing, but really all that I want is to be able to see the radio channels I am selecting on the guage the EVIC displays its info on. Does anyone know if that is possible without EVIC? It would be nice to use my steering controls and have the radio info right in front of me instead of me having use the radio display. Any thoughts?

The "gauge" IS the EVIC (Electronic Vehicle Information Center). The information is passed on the CAN bus. You'd have to be able to read the CAN bus, parse the data properly and then figure out how to display it. You could buy a new cluster that has the EVIC, then have it programmed so your Pat would recognize it. Most likely cost prohibitive.

I wouldn't bother. Mine has the EVIC, and I'm less than impressed on how it displays radio info.

In a year or two there will be enough that have been totalled for various reasons that the clusters will start showing up on ebay. Most modern scrap yards use ebay now a days to part out vehicles

Get the ScanGaugeII, my brother has one and I love that thing. It gives you ALL of the vitals of the car, a lot of stuff non-car enthusiast's won't understand, but I love knowing the actual temp of my coolant, the manifold pressure, and the exact fuel economy I'm getting in real time. I'm just trying to figure out a cool way to mount it to the dash somehow.

I am seriously considering that! I think I'll be able to manipulate the cubby under the single cd player to mount it. If I get the time, I might see about taking the face plate off of the scanguage and making a custom bezel to replace it and cover/mount over the cubby hole's opening. I say that now, but with a 1 year old in the house, who has that sort of time! :D

re: ScanGuage II Mount

One mounting option is the Blend Mount which mounts it over your rear view mirror.

Comes with extra cable and hardware.$180 for mount and guage.

Ok, I'm a girl...what is an Evic??

I have an 08 Limited with the 6 disc stereo and satellite. The display has the info button that shows the artist and song etc. but that's about all it shows. Is that an Evic??

The Electronic Vehicle Info Center (EVIC) is not in the radio. It's in the cluster on the left side. It has the compass, outside temp, the radio selection (though not song info) pressing the button cycles through other displays including gas mileage, tire pressure and other such info. When the vehicle is not in gear, you can use it to setup various options like lock mode and a few other things...

Hope that helped a bit...

Nothing aftermarket

The stereo does display info when you push the info button and also the artist info is displyed on the dash when the speedometer is and it shows compass reading and temperature. So is that the Evic or is it the stereo system display?? Bear with me please, I'm trying to learn :)

If you have the EVIC, there will be a display in the same circle as the speedometer. There will also be a button that looks just like the one you use to reset the trip odometer. It allows you to cycle through displays including:
Compass, and radio settings
Tire pressure display (all 4 wheels)
fuel usage (mpg, or l/100km)
Distance to empty

As mentioned when the car is not in gear, you can access personal settings including:
how long you want accessories to run after you remove the key (radio, etc)
if you want lights to flash when you lock your doors
if you want horn to sound when you lock your doors
do you want your doors to lock when your car is in motion
...plus others I cannot recall at the moment.

Very nice feature! (first thing I did was remove the horn alert when locking doors)

I've got the standard single-disk base radio, no gps, no nav, no handsfree.
There's no "info" button, and song info is never displayed - just the frequency and button number that was pushed - P1, P2, P4, etc.
Although, with the EVIC, in "home" display (compass, temp), it also displays what station's playing.
