Hello to all RIOT-ers! My name is Barry, and I live in Steveston BC - a suburb of Vancouver.

We bought a 2010 Patriot Sport yesterday - 2.4 l, 5-speed manual, green, with Freedom Drive, AC, and trailer hitch yesterday. We take possession on Wednesday.

I have never owned a Jeep product before, and we chose this vehicle for: price point ( incredible price); towing capability - we tow a 1976 Trillium trailer (1600 pounds or so); and price - the Patriot came in $6000 less than the Ford we were considering, and about $10000 less than a Subaru Forester. Did I mention the price:notworthy: We got $3000 discount from the dealer and were able to pick up the vehicle for just over $20K.

I look forward to tapping into the brain trust here, and gaining some ideas or gettign the most out of our new Patriot.

Barry

If you find one that has a towing package (primarily an oil cooler), you should be good to go, although depending on where you take your 1600 lb trailer, it may be a challenge (I'd avoid the coquihalla snowshed).

With the towing package, it's rated for 2000 lbs. 1000 lbs without the towing package.

I called the dealer and asked him to look into this a bit - if all i need is the cooler, then install one and we'll make a deal....

We do a little hilly driving - and I want to drive hwy 3 to Osoyoos and then to Cranbrook this summer.

maybe tomorrow I'll be a Jeep owner!

just get them to give you an oil cooler and install it yourself.

1600 lb will be a pretty good load for a Patriot. Hwy 3 shouldn't be a problem though. Make sure you don't have too much tongue weight.

OH! Don't get a dealer installed hitch! For that weight, you'll want a 2" Class III hitch, which is aftermarket. Jeep only supplies a 1-1/4" hitch, which IMO is useless.
