The Patriot looks like it is the winner of my wife's affection for her next SUV. She will be turning in her 05 Escape ending a 3 year lease. I hope Chrysler sets the residual rates high and the money factors low to launch this little Buggy like a rocket!

I agree. I don't even like the look of the Compass. Not a big fan of the Liberty either. I don't think it is worth its cost. I'd like to take a drive in a Commander though--what's the word on the street about those.

I couldn't afford one though. I have been eagerly anticipating the Patriot--I almost ended up with an Escape! It'd be a tough change from Jeeps which I have always owned.

Please don't "almost end up with an Escape." That would be bad news. As for the Commander: I've test-driven it a couple of times and I love it. I've read reviews that say "it's not big enough," or that it's "a 7-passenger SUV for dwarves." I totally disagree. I mean, it's not as big as a Tahoe or Yukon, but just by looking at those, they obviously look a lot bigger than the Commander. As for the ride, I felt it was very smooth, similar to the '05-present JGC. It has a lot of power (even the V6 which I've also read is way underpowered). The only complaint I would have is the the visibility through the rearview mirror isn't the best when the 3rd row is up. I can't imagine how much worst it is with 7 people in the vehicle.

I am still all for the Commander, and I am very upset that '09 will be the last year it will be made.

the Terrier of Jeeps

My wife took her first test drive in my new Patriot this past weekend. She liked it! It looks "adorable" parked next to her Grand Cherokee. She compares it to a terrier: small but aggressive.
