I've only had my Patriot for about 6 months and already the leather around the shifter is cracking!?!?!
Is this something that has happened to anyone else here?
Has anyone had success with their dealership in replacing this?

Can't say, mine is obviously rubber/vinyl. It is not cracked in 2 years and 50,000 miles.

Noticed this same thing and reported it to the dealer. I have an appointment next week to get the shifter boot replaced under warranty. I'm hoping they won't have a problem letting me keep the old one to use as a pattern for making a leather one.

ok, I'm going to take it to the dealer. thanx guys.
I still am a little disappointed that it has started to crack after only a few months......

Get ready to go back to the Dealership... and often.

I'm on my 3rd shift boot... (2009 5-speed 4x4 with 18,000kms)

That's funny... I have a 2010, purchased in January with 8 km on it... I have 16 000 km now... Do you just drive to the end of the street and back?

Obviously there at least 2 manufacturers using a slightly different plastic/vinyl/rubber for the boot. Mine shows no sign of fatigue or cracking of any kind at 50K miles. Hot summers cold winters here in MN, so climate surely isn't the problem.

I take the bus to work. The bust term is 3kms away from home. Parking in downtown Ottawa isn't worth driving. :smiley_thumbs_up:

That's probably what's happening cause the 3rd shift boot I've had installed actually feels like real thick leather. The original and the first replacement I had bought felt so thin and cheap. I'll dig up some pictures when I get home.

OK, so I took a little bit longer getting to the dealer about this then I had hoped. But I finally went and they ordered the part andf they were supposed to change it today. But they just called me and told me they can't change it because the "handle" doesn't come appart and they have to o5rder another part!!!! WTF?
I thought the knob just pulls off the shifter? Am I wrong?

They swap out the shifter panel or whatever because it all comes as 1 part.
