We have been having some high winds and storms here the last couple of days and while driving on the freeway into the wind my hood was flapping around like crazy, its pretty scary. So i was wondering if there is any cases where the hood has flown off and or pop opened? Is there anything i can do to keep the think from flapping around? Thanks!

I've been on this forum for about three years. In that time, flapping hoods have been mentioned often, but I don't recall anyone having the hood pop open. Someone figured out how to fix the problem. I'm sure someone with a better memory than I will locate the appropriate posts.

My 07 flaps whenever a semi goes past me on two lane roads. I have played with the adjustments and checked seams with no help. I believe it to be a design flaw in the hinge style. I can lift my hood at each rear corner 3/4" with two fingers. I can't do this on other makes. The first time it happened, it scared the heck out of me and the wife.

my 2009 patriot was flopping in the wind from day one, went back to the dealer and wasted 1/2 a day just to be told that there is nothing they can do,:soapbox:
so i started my own investigation, after 1/2 an hour of playing with the hinges adjustment and the front 2 plastic screws had it all fixed, turned out that the hinges were mounted 1/2" to 3/4" too high on the 1/4 panels, now the whole thing sits nice and evenly flush with the rest of the body,
now days only in a 50 mile cross winds that you can still see the whole thing float like it`s sitting on water, it must be the design problem :wow:surprise -surprise

nostalgic

The bonnet or 'hood' must be another 'retro' touch by jeep ;) first time I looked under the bonnet and then had to slam it shut, I thought 'haven't had to do that for a long long time' (slam it shut that is), had a 1969 ford capri once that did that.......anyhoo.... 'back in the day' as they all now seem to say.

shoddy build (squeeky doors, cheaply fitted door seals, paint runs, poorly finished welds, thin coats of paint) ... why do we love our Patriot so ??:D

current auto terminolgy 101: fenders.....located at the two FRONT corners of the vehicle. quarter panels......located at the two REAR corners of the vehicle. hood is located at the front of the vehicle and either a decklid, liftgate or tailgate is located at the rear of the vehicle.

there are NO "quarter panels" in the front and NO "fenders" in the rear (the only exception I can think of would be the rear "fenders" on dually pickups).

I'm just guessing that your hood isn't attached to the rear of your Patriot. if so, you have other, much more important, problems......:icon_rolleyes:
