I had an alarm removed from my old car that I bought at best buy because they do it for free if you bought it there. It was a good alarm so I said what the hell I will put it in my Jeep.I went to Best Buy to get it reinstalled and they quoted me 380.00 including the bypass system for anti theft key.I thought it was kind of high (here is my mistake)I went to Car Toys to see how much they would charge me and they said 300.00.I figured they knew what they were doing so I said yes.

It took them 9 hours to install it.they called me and I went to pick it up and I tested it before I took it out of their lot and the starter kill didn't work! Another 2 hrs later(they stayed open late) my car was done everything was fine.3 months later my alarm would not stop going off my neighbors had a newborn and their window is right next to my garage so you could imagine how pissed they were. finally I just cut ground to the siren and took it back to Car Toys. The reason the alarm was going off was because the wires were not crimped correctly and came out and grounded setting off the alarm.

I have had problems with it ever since and the past 4 months my battery has been dying .Finally learned how to diagnose to diagnose a draw and found out it was the alarm again. So today they had my Patriot for 7 hours and did not do s*h*i*t except say we don't know what is wong with it must be the brain and even though they are supposedly a DEI installer they can't warranty the brain. Then they tell me that I would have to go to Best Buy to go get it warrantied!!!

Anyway I might just go to Best buy and never go to Car Toys again ever in my life.I really wish I would have just paid the extra 80.00 and have it installed by people that can stand behind there work.I really think because they crimped the wires too loose and they came out is what shorted the brain and I have had problems ever since then. Why would they install something they can't warranty.I feel like they are ex car salesman everytime I go there. My wife went off on the guy and customers left after hearing us.

I told my friend this story and she said she didn't shop there. She said she wanted to buy a XM radio and have it installed. She said the guy told her that they weren't sure if it would work with her vehicle. They gave her a quote and it had a quote for install and a uninstall also. They told her we'll if doesn't work then she would have to pay them to uninstall it!!! She left and has never gone back. sorry for the long story but I really had to vent

I pulled out the fuse to the wire that was causing the draw and I tried it without that fuse. The alarm works exactly the same!!! I don't know WTF that relay is about but I tried every single option and it works perfectly except of course when they messed up the brake shut off with the remote start.I am going Thursday so they "can make it right" so I will see what they do.This is their last chance "to make it right"

Just a guess.....but the relay that does nothing should probably activate the brake shut off. On many cars the brake lights have power even if the ignition is off. When properly installed, that relay might be a way to knock the brake light power out so the battery doesn't go dead.

Like I said, just a guess. My cruise control works like that, with a relay that energizes the brake light cruise cancel system when the ignition is turned on.

the brake shut off doesn't work with it plugged in and I checked the lights and every little aspect that goes along with the alarm and it works the same. the relay goes into the same wire twice ?? Just very odd that it works perfectly with out it.the brain is getting the 12volt signal for the brakes it's just not switching it off

Gee, I was thinking this thread was about Matchbox cars or RC's or something. I never heard of Car Toys, but thanks for the heads up.

There are many parts stores, shops, dealers, etc, that are on my "Do not buy there" list.

Sometimes it's just one location of a chain though.

Just an Update they had to totally reinstall the whole alarm.there was nothing wrong with the brain it was just the installer just like I thought. They had the shop manager install it.

I still get lied to.I checked the alarm and the starter kill didn't work. They told me DEI did not recommend installing the starter kill.I called him on it and said I want a print out where it says that and of course he couldn't print one.So he gets DEI on the phone and I asked the guy at dei if they don't recommend installing a starter kill and he said you can have it done as an extra layer of security just that it is a lot more work!!!.That's why they didn't do it is because it is a lot more work the b*s*a*ds.Then the manager Nick still trys to talk me out of it.I told him I want what I paid for and that I didn't pay for a remote start install. Also I know that they wouldn't give me some of my money back for a partial install.Never once has anyone said their sorry through this whole ordeal or try to be empathetic.

The funny thing too was there was another guy there that had a radio installed and it kept losing it's settings. They told him your all set then 10 minutes later he came back and guess what it was still messed up!! I am filing a complaint with the BBB and the attorney general
