What is Freedom drive?

So i have been hearing a lot about freedom drive 1 and 2, but i dont know what i have an why and how it might affect me. Could someone please tell me if i have it and whats the use of it?
I ride a 07' Patriot limited 4x4

Sounds like you have Freedom Drive I (like I have). It is an excellent all wheel drive system that is always engaged. The T Handle that supposedly puts you in 4x4 mode merely causes the torque between the front and rear axles to be equal instead of computer controlled. There are many threads that go into significant detail about the additional components on the Freedom Drive II. The FDI can go off road, but lacks skid plates and tow hooks (to name a few missing items).

FDII has some exclusive equipment like skid plates, tow hooks, special ABS programming, and about 33% lower gearing.

Does your Jeep turn 2100rpm at 70mph cruising or 2900rpm?
