I just bought an 07 patriot FDII with tow prep package. Had it one day and I am already starting modifications in my mind. First I was going to add a hitch, but I cant find the location of the wire harness. Where is it?This may be the lamest post on here. but if some one would help me out I would much appreciate it.

Um, if you got tow prep, it would have had the hitch and harness... I'm sure someone who's added a harness and hitch will chime in.

I bought the pat from a dealor, and the advertised the vehichle came with the prep package which I believ includes the oil cooler and the wire harness. I was looking at adding the hitch but couldn't find the wire harness any where.

I just had a hitch put on. The wiring harness runs from the battery, down the left side of the vehicle, clips into the left tail light, then goes just in front of the muffler on the left side. However, since they could route it to either taillight, if it's not on the left side check the right side as well. If you reach under the bumper you'll notice it has a lip. Check underneath there and see if they stuffed it up there. You could also get the Jeep up on ramps and follow the wire from the battery to see where they put it. If you absolutely can't find it, you have a few options. The stock MOPAR one is part number 82209280AD. Moparliquidators.com has it for $94.75. Since that's a bit excessive in my opinion, you can also buy one from U-Haul (they used part number 13493 on my hitch) which cost me $39.95.

thanks for the reply. I checked under the bumber, and no where to be seen or felt. I checked the battery and there was 2 leads coming from the the positive off the battery. I was unable to follow the leads because the sun sets fairly early here in the Pacific northwest. any other tips would be great!

The Tow Group does not have a hitch.

It includes three items:

  1. Engine oil cooler
  2. Wiring harness
  3. Full size spare tire (some 2007 & 2008 only)

Here are some other points that may help you:
  • If you did not receive the wiring harness but confident you have the tow group you need Part# 05267858AA. You can confirm if you have the engine oil cooler by looking right above the oil filter (see picture below).
  • If you have the Tow Group, when you add the wiring harness it is connected to your left and right tail lamps.
  • If you do not have the tow group you need to purchase a different wiring harness that routes to the engine compartment (Part# 82209280AC)
