Imagine my Patriot surprise when I noticed Car & Driver's 2009 Page-A-Day calendar giving a salute to our beloved Patriot. As a dream car! Into 2010!
:wow: :wow: :wow:

Okay, it's hard to think of the Patriot as a dream car. But the dream was ours. We put our Trail Rated Patriot on the trail of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid in southeast Utah. The trail was cold, but we did find Butch Cassidy's King World Waterpark in Moab. And happy trails to you in 2010.
:smiley_thumbs_up:

Here's the original 2007 Jeep Patriot Limited FD II test they are referring to:

Happy Trails! :beerchug::popcorn::Racing::cool:

Not a bad read... Their final assessment of it "feeling like a car" is a little off, I think. I personally feel a lot more tough and safe in my Patriot than my Legacy. But their description of the off-road capability and quirks of the CVT on-road are pretty accurate.

They did kinda like the Patriot. The pointed out the obvious things- the engine isn't all ate up with power, the interior needed work (this was before the 09 refresh), and it was competent offroad but no Wrangler.

They quite enjoyed the handling and on road feel of the Patriot.

It is important to understand that as a car magazine, they tend to go for vehicles that have the feel of a sports car of them. The Patriot isn't like that, it's more utilitarian. They won't ever consider the Patriot alongside the RAV4, but they're two very different vehicles despite their initial similarities.

Utilitarian... yes. I agree.

As for comparing to the RAV4 (my son has a 2005 RAV4 - old body type), I can say that in comparing both of them I like the Patriot more for it's "car-like" mannerism and feel AND it's utility as a "cargo" vehicle in comparison to the RAV4.

The RAV4 (imo) certainly does not have the same "car-like" feel to it but it doesn't feel like a SUV either. The Patriot beats it at that as well imo. We have a '92 Rodeo and a '00 Explorer at the house so my basis for a SUV feel may be biased. Maybe this is the definition of a crossover??? A car-SUV-wanna-be?

I need to win the lotto and buy myself a REAL vehicle - a YUGO! Never any doubt what that was... a pure POS!!!
