2010 Patriot - yea or nay?

Hi Guys,
I'm new here and need the advice of the collective. I am looking at trading my 2008 Ram Hemi (regular cab) in on a 2010 Patriot Sport. I know, big difference but the truck is not as family friendly as we added a new baby 7 months ago.

I love the Pat, drove one about 4 months ago.

My Ram has been great, no probs in 33K miles. Is the Patriot a solid, reliable machine? Any major issues to watch for?

I mostly use my vehicle for daily commute to work and to pick up the two kids. I also hunt a little here and there but no 4x4 stuff. So the Sport with a few amenities is fine by me.

What do you guys think?

It should work well for you. Very economical. Roomy back seat will handle two car seats with ease. Consider the reclining back seat - very versatile. Fold flat passenger front seat adds greatly to the utility. Interior is easy to keep clean - great for kids, pets, etc.

Good choice for a family vehicle. Just some advise, spring for the 4x4 even if you aren't going to take the jeep off road much. You will be kicking yourself the first time you get stuck if you get the 4x2. The mpg does not change much between the two and it is not that much more money for the 4x4.

hi!
patriot is a great car - because it is very easy to live with. great looks, good seats, smooth ride (for a suv), lots of space in a compact box.
and it can go pretty fast on german autobahns. and if you have the 4x4 it drives very stable under any weather-condition.
a funny thing: the first reviews in german language were not so pro-pastriotic. that seems to change. more and more very postiv reviews!! but it is still strangely underated.
i got the diesel: lots of power and very low on gas!! all my friends liked it, when thes tried it. but nobody has seen it before (in commercials, in ads or on the road).
so: jeeps patriot is great / jeeps marketing-department...well..sleeps???suc...??or what??

nay. if you like your transmission failing and a river in your car. then go for it...

The Pat is a horrible DD! I got in it after a party and said "Take me home car, Im Drunk!" it just sat there and looked at me, Horrible DD indeed. :)

not always the case, many people without sunroofs needed an umbrella. I have 2009 1 year so far with sunroof, dry as a bone. Btw this year Arkansas had the most rainfall this year that I can remember.

The Patriot is the only 4x4 that gets good gas mileage. Don't get confused comparing AWD or 4WD with the Patriot's 4x4. The Patriot has all their limited off-road capabilities but has the additional feature of "locking in" power to all four wheels. To my knowledge, none of the AWD or 4WD vehicles have that capability. Also understand that the Patriot doesn't have a 4x4 transfer case like the Wrangler that makes it a heavy duty off-road machine nor does it come in a 6 or 8 cylinder selection. As a result it will not have the "pep" of AWD/4WD vehicles with larger engines and not have the technical rock climbing capabilities and off-road reliability of a Jeep Wrangler. What it will have is good gas mileage and good off-road capabilities for non-technical applications.
If you get the Patriot, I would advise getting the 4x4 over the 4x2 if for no other reason than resale value. If gas mileage is the uppermost concern and 4x4 capabilities are 2nd, get the manual transmission 4x4 FD1. If real or potential 4x4 is primary and gas mileage secondary, get the 4x4 FD2. You can upgrade the 4x4 manual transmission FD1 to make it more like its FD2 sister, but the FD2 comes with several items that would be cost prohibitive to try and duplicate.
P.S. Stay away from the sunroof option as many have had and continue to have problems with it.

i have a 2010. and love it.

just dont get a used 2007. (or whenever the first one came out)

my bro worked for chrysler, and was tired of fixing patriots. He flipped out on me when i told him i was getting one (he thought i was getting a used one) and told me all the problems they had, but now that the 2010 is the 4th generation most of those problems are fixed.

(to whoever owns an 07 or 08, dont get pissed. i didnt say they suck or that they all have problems, but a lot of them do)

Well, considering your brother was the person the Patriot's went to, I am not suprised that he's annoyed with them. lol

Replace it with a Liberty or 4 door Wrangler. Libertys could be had for around the same price, although not as well equipped.


To the original poster.. Get it if you haven't already.
