Got a leak as well

Got back from work and found bout 4 oz of water in the rear cargo area. I have a rubber mat in the rear cargo area and it was pooled up on it. A lake bout 10 in by 6 in. I don t have a sunroof. The rear brake light electric wire seems to be were the water is coming from. The seal seems to not fit tight. I took it to the dealer today. Sad to report that leaks are such a problem they have a tech to repair them. And it s his full time job. Only have 5900 miles on it. Got it in June.

its not surprising. welcome to this horrible club. search this forum "water leak" and you'll get 10 pages deep of threads.

I phoned Chrysler canada and explained my maplight leaking problems and that my jeep had been in the shop 2 times already. The lady said that she would phone the service manager herself and tell him to contact the Chrysler tech line when my Pat was in the shop. So I dropped off my Pat last night and gave them pictures of all the leaks and they said they would look at it today. So I phoned this afternoon and had to tell them to take down the headliner and make sure there wasn't any mold. So while they had the headliner down they found that the left rear sunroof drain had totaly collapsed and wasn't letting any water through. The tube was tangled up with the curtain airbag and the water would have had to travel up hill to drain out. One of the clips that was supposed to hold the drain tube in place wasn't connected properly. So I got my Pat back now and we'll have to see if the problem is fixed. I'm going to park it outside for the rest of the winter to test the leak.

The Jeep Patriot is one of my favorite cars on the U.S. market, but listening to all of these complaints makes me want a Subaru. Or maybe a Toyota.

JeepHankins, I hate to mention it to you but the wet Jeep logo picture you've got in your signature is deliciously ironic. Did you do that on purpose?

no more water so far......!

Well they changed the rubber seal around the glass roof for a little broader and stronger one. Now I could only detect a few drops of water, after hosing the roof thoroughly. That reflects what others already have mentioned in this forum. A little water sesms to be "normal". At least for Chrysler!

(with or without water inside:D)

It's been now more then 2 weeks and we had a lot of rain here in the
noreast. No water coming through the sunroof (or anywher else) so far.
Should this really been the solution.: a wrong or bad sunroof rubber
sealing. We'll see what time brings us.

In the meantime we still enjoy our little red devil and wish everybody
(hopefully without water) Happy Thnaksgiving!:banana::D

No sun roof and major leaks for the last year and half. They tried to repair it 5 times but no result... rear dome light still leaks... with all other problems... A real crap and a real nightmare.
lemon law. get rid of that Patriot and get another one...unless you have a 2008 or 2009 with the lifetime powertrain warranty. then it's worth holding onto!

I am in Canada... no lemon law apply here... believe me, you are lucky to have this law on your side of the border !
But there is a way to get help.

A while back, I was looking into purchasing a used patriot from a guy in my city. He ended up telling me that the vehicle was bought back by chrysler because he took it in 6 times to the dealer in order to have them fix leaks.

He had to use the arbitration services of CAMVAP

Leak is back again through the front dome light...3rd time back to the dealer. At least this time they were very friendly on the phone and offered a rental car without me asking and were able to take it in right away. 3rd times a charm? I'm not counting on it.

Back for me too  I have the sunroof and it started leaking last January, and the dealer replaced the sunroof seal at a cost of $400 (I was 1000 miles out of warranty).

Today we got a very slow, soaking rain and DRIP!, there it is again coming through the map lights. Took a look around and nothing looks out of the ordinary on the seal - no tears, weathering, cracks, etc.

I am wondering what my next step should be -- take it back to the dealer and have them charge me another pot of $ for something that won't last again?

did they check the TSB for the little hole?

I had my gasket replaced also and got the leak again. Question for you though. was the leak less than before or just as bad? Mine is much better, no pooling. There was a few drops of water and that was it. It is better but not fully fixed. Talks are in progress about getting the problem taken care of for the final step.....

jgg204, joelbird -

I just read the TSB about that tiny hole. The dealer I went to never mentioned it, and when I asked about others having this problem (reading all the posts here) they claimed they didn't have any run of folks in for leaks, but it just didn't seem like they were telling the truth !
Joel, the amt of water coming in is close to as bad as it was before. Maybe 70% or so, definitely a lot more than a few drops. What do you mean that talks are in progress to fix?... with the dealer? THanks for any information you can provide me .. The last thing I want to hear from these guys when I go up there is that I need another seal for another $400.

well i got in my jeep today after freezing rain and then a decent amount of rain. the front light was full. So i drained it. i drove for 20 minutes and had more water drip out along the way. I have 6500 miles on my car from new 7-30-2009. i have had it in 3 times and This is the worst it has been. The first time was a "clogged rain gutter" the second was a "repaired leak at passenger front sunroof drain tube" the third was "a deformed gasket around the sunroof"
The talks i am having are lemon law talks. I am kinda stuck. the new jeeps have the terrible lifeless warranties. So i will not take a new one. The other options brought to the table are pay off of balance left on car. Free extended bumper to bumper. I am not sure how this is going to pan out. The dealership i bought from and the dealership i deal with are night and day.

I feel for you. I lemoned mine and because the dealership I bought it from screwed me so bad my only choice was compensation. If Chrysler bought back my patriot I would owe them money. I didn't want a new one so I got 4 grand tax free but am still stuck with the patriot. It is now sitting on a used car lot up for sale. It don't leak through the dome lights anymore. I just want out of it. Hopefully the car lot can sell it for me so I can get something else.
