Hi! Just bought COASTAL (tm) SAE Full Synthetic 5w30 motor oil and wanted to know if its ok to use it with my Patriot. Has anyone heard of this brand? It is made by Warren Unilube. It says API certified and ILSAC GF-4

I only use amsoil, why? one, it works. i get better economy with everything i use it in, two, im a dealer bcause I liked the product so much, I became a dealer because I belive in it.

I just put Amsoil in my 07 Patriot and before that I put it in my tranny, rear Dana44 and engine in my 1987 Jeep Comanche. Researched it on the internet and Amsoil is the Tops in Synthetics.

Coastal oils are fine. Pep Boys used to sell them when I lived in Chicago and I used them on several daily driver cars for years without an issue. I never liked the idea of paying $9 a quart for a brand name synthetic...

As long as it says API certified it should be good to go. I have never heard of it.

I am more of a Valvoline Full Synthetic 5w20 motor oil guy myself. Good luck with the oil. Hope it works out great for you.

There is no higher specification yet from ILSAC. I know they are coming out with a GF-5 in 2010.

Since Chryslers MS-6395 certification is meaningless outside North America you should be O.K.

To play it safe you could visit their website and ask them to confirm if the oil is also MS-6395 compliant.

CLASSIC Homac post. Blanket statement "certification is meaningless".

I will leave you with this.. The base COASTAL oil meets ILSAC-4, their premium oil meets ILSAC-4, GM, FORD, and MIL specs. No mention of the Chrysler spec that your owners manual calls for either. But owners manuals are meaningless too.

For 50 cents more per quart you can error on the side of caution and get an oil that meets all the specs, or you can save $2. Your call.

Not sure if you are replying to me. Could you please explain if you are, I'm not sure what you are talking about. I put Amsoil in my Patriot and stated that I used Coastal oil several times in My 82 VW Jetta Diesel. You lost me somewhere.

Not sure that is a nice comment to make robertroll. He hit it dead on, they do not use that certification anywhere outside of the U.S. The suggestion to contact them to confirm is also a good one.

Oils, wow, this could go on and on.

All that are really interested in whats the "best" oil for your application you owe it to yourself to contact BND Automotive (440-821-9040) and talk to Brian, the owner. You will be in for a treat as this man knows his stuff!!! It will clarify what oil and why to put in your cars. Not some sales gimic, but facts and an explanation behind the facts.

He will answer all your questions about Castrol, Quaker State, Amsoil, Mobil1 and any other oils you may have questions about.

No hype, no BS marketing, non of that. He will open your eyes on whats the best for your application. Even the Amsoil dealer here would not be a bad idea to tralk to Brian. You will learn a thing or two.

Don't slam this post until you have talked to Brian.

Then you can make an informed decision.

P.S. No, I'm not Brian, just an oil claims skeptic and he cleared all that up.

Owners Manuals are meaningless?

Looks like a CLASSIC "troll" post to me. Come on, surely you do not mean that. There is nothing wrong doing some investigation as Homac suggested.
