Hey guys, just found this awesome forum.

I'm thinking of purchasing a 52000 miles 07 Patriot.Due of my wife changing jobs, we need an extra car so I was thinking of selling my 07 CX-7 and get 2 other cars from the same Mazda/Jeep dealership.

(reasoning behind that is that I want to keep same monthly payment as I have now)

One that caught my attention is their used 07 Patriot 2.4l,2WD,Limited edition, auto.
The other, is a nice Miata that they have in their lot as well.

Any particular things I should look for before purchasing this car?

Any idea what's the towing capacity of this exact car ? (cant figure out if it's 1000lb or 2000lb)

If I bring the TSB's that are on the stickied thread, will they be able to tell me what has been done?

thanks in advance for your help! :notworthy:

FIRST & FOREMOST: It is NOT a car, it's a Jeep!

Now that we have that cleared up, and you'll NEVER call it a car again. 55,000 miles is pretty high for a 2007 IMO. What are they asking for this vehicle? I would be slightly leery of the CVT in the 2007, there have been more than a few that have been replaced due to bad bearings, etc. Mine is even showing more of these symptoms. They typically fail around 20-40k miles, but it could be whenever. THOROUGHLY test drive the Jeep and listen for a whine - more high pitched than the engine.

Other than that, I love mine.

Awesome thanks for you input ...will definately look more into that.

So how much does it cost to replace the CVT on this JEEP (you see, I learn fast :p )?

They are asking 14900 for it. Thing is I dont have much room for negotiations since trade-in value of my cx-7 is less than what I owe to the bank.
Basically, they will sell me the two car for NADA retail value (and they will eat up the diff. of value of my cx-7)

Pour water all over the thing to make sure it doesn't leak. Sounds funny, I know, but leaking is a NOTORIOUS problem for Patriots and is well documented on this board. Some leak, some don't.

According to the manual, you can tow 1,000lbs without the tow package and 2,000lbs with the tow package.

Welcome!!----Just see if you can check to see if there is any sign of previous or current roof leaks ( Check all the roof dome lights for stains). It may help if the Dealer can do a complete Pute re-flash just to make sure thet the current ECU software is up to date.

On the leak note, be sure to check the spare tire compartment for stains or rust. This is a low point that is easy to see into. I did notice water on my rear passenger floor and under the front passenger seat. Not sure how it got there, but appeared after a major snow.

Transmissions are not cheap because they are non-serviceable. Honestly, if I had to replace my at my cost, I would put in a manual. I have the 5yr/60k mile warranty though.

think $14.9 is high for an 07

4x2 with +50k miles?
think $14.9 is way to much for it,
new at the time they were starting at $16k for 4x2, say $17k for limited
with rebates, you could probably find new 09/10 for not much more. and new would include lifetime warranty.
lifetime warranty is not tranferable to different owners

i have an 07 FDII with 64k miles, i would be lucky to get $10k for it
good note, have had no problems with it,
some offroading, some beach driving, no leaks, CVT is fine, no probs

all transmissions are serviceable, it's just a matter of capability. traditional automatic transmission are serviceable. CVT's are also serviceable but dealerships don't have the capability to do the repair so they swap them out with new ones / refurbished ones from the factory.

some manufacturers do not allow their dealership service shops to rebuild transmission. for example, if the transmission in a Honda died, Honda requires the dealership to swap it out for another one (new or refurbished depending on warranty status) instead of take it apart and rebuild.

my vote is to NOT go with the 2007 Patriot. your best bet is to go with the 2010 Patriots which have a full 3 yrs of production under its belt so that hopefully all of the kinks (leaking, suspension, CVT) have been banged out.

plus, is the 2007 even "certified used" ? if it isn't, then i definitely would NOT go with it. 55K miles on a 2007 is extremely high, and that price does not fit the vehicle.

i would go with a new 2010 Patriot if you are definitely set on the Patriot for your next vehicle

all transmissions are serviceable...
Technicality. Of course everything is serviceable. In all cases of CVT problems that I've seen on this forum, the dealer replaced rather than serviced - at the direction of Chrysler, I believe. And, since the manufacturer demands replacement, I'd be skeptical of any shop wanting to repair one. But that's another thread...

I couldn't agree more. When I was trying to trade in my '07 FDII (off-road) model during C4C when they were in HUGE demand, the dealer was offering me dealer retail of over $14k. Go get a year-end '09 deal!

I can appreciate your being upside down in the loan. I have that situation on two vehicles! It is difficult to get out of, BUT, don't be taken advantage of in the process.

If you're worried about money, too, I would stay away from the Miata, which HAS to carry significant insurance, I would think. Get something more practical, never know when your situation is going to change, like now.

I have a 2007 Limited FDII Patriot. I have had only one problem, the flapping hood issue and even then it is only under a certain set of circumstances that it occurs.

Price sounds high. I typically don't buy first production year but I was in a bind and had little choice. I have no regrets other than it is underpowered.
