"The engine and mechanicals remain the same, although Jeep has phased out the two-litre diesel because it was only available in manual."

CRAZY - the 2.0 CRD is a great little 4x4 with heaps of torque...

why do they always get rid of the good things....?

2 litre Diesel phased out because it was only available in Manual-----What a Dumb, Lame. Cop out, Girly , Mamby Pamby Excuse....The 6 speed manual was MADE for that engine.....The main reason is Australia has succumbed to the Enviromental Emissioms Gestapo!!!!!&when its fitted with the New Mercedes Benz 2.2 litre diesel it will be cleaner. However FIAT may not want a Merc Diesel fitted in THEIR ITALIAN JEEP--So you may not get a diesel version for many years yet. If the Diesel is Deleted from the UK Patriot line up , It'l be Goodbye Patriot sales , Only a few people in the UK would consider any kind of Gas / Petrol SUV. Plus the Auto box , especially CVT , would not be a first choice decision over here!!

We are talking about deleteing the Diesel alltogether in the UK---Never mind stop-start!! People just wont buy a Gas/Petrol CVT Patriot in the UK----Have you seen what ÂŁÂŁÂŁÂŁ Road tax is going up to in 2010........

Yea Wayne but according to this post --If you read it !! It states that the Diesel Pat is being Deleted in Australia----Sounds like the first nail in the Coffin!!

Good Idea Zbee----Report back with your findings...Cheers Mate!!

does this mean it'll hold its value even better in the future so when i trade in the patriot for a diesel wrangler i'll get more for it? he he

Nope don't think so.
There was an article in the West Australian about this Jeep said that demand for the CRD was low and all crd's accounted for less than 5%.

Now if Jeep were serious about wanting to make it work with a CRD the reply about people not wanting a manual is crap.
You already have the VW's engine.
Next logical step is go out and buy there DSG system.
That would fix the problem for the non manual drivers.

Probably the other way round in UK--95% Diesel--5% Petrol ( Gas ) The 2.4 5 speed or CVT is way too uneconomical & slow for British drivers & the annual road tax is way higher....
