Dear Pat does not want to start anymore...
My wife said she had trouble to start it this afternoon but after few tries, she got it running. This evening, it starts for like 2 seconds then stop. Try again: nothing
5 minutes later: same thing, it runs 2 seconds then stop and smell fuel like *** I thought it got flood but does not seems to be
I suspect the fuel pump: but before removing the seat and go play there, is there any simple and quick procedure to confirm diagnostic? CEL turns on but now off - normal? Should I get a code (I don't) but the Electronic Throttle Control Indicator Light is on.
I removed the fuel line on injectors (easiest one to access for now); turned key on, tried starting: no fuel coming at all
Cannot do much for now - too dark out - so I will look at it tomorrow; if anybody has advise by then - thanks!

UPDATE - I did some tests today but still need help...
- fuses: all ok (visual)
- relay: I don't know how to check them, but one is clicking when I turn the key - looks normal but??? which one is the one for the fuel pump? the one that clicked is no.1 (see picture). Can I switch another relay just to test it or anybody can tell me how to test relay?

- fuel pump: I check voltage on the connector (wire) while key is on:
1 and 2 (see picture): 2V
1 and 3: 2V
2 and 3: 0V
1 and 4: 12V but I guess this is the fuel gauge so... (and yes, I supposed the pin on no.4 should had stay with the pump but it follows the connector...:( )
2V: I always thought everything was 12V on cars??
I then checked the resistance on the pump:
1 and 2: 96.4 ohms
1 and 3: 0
2 and 3: 0

Does this confirm my pump is the problem or not? Is there any other test I should do?

thanks

Thanks Harold,
Today I tried to plug the pump directly to a battery: nothing
I identified the pin no.2 is the red and no.1 or no.3 the ground
I get 2V on the connector wire, pump does not start while by passed : seems both pump and relay/wire are the source of the problem... I cannot believe both would had failed at the same time!...
Any idea?

The end?
That 2V bet ween 1 and 2 really bugs me since it was making no sense... I finally got it: 1 and 2 are the gauge (2V), 3 and 4 the pump (12V) - 3 is the ground. That simple, I don't know why I did not realize that before...
That being said, I tested everything again now knowing what does what: power is good in the connector, so I concluded the pump is busted. I was ready to remove it and order a new one when I decided to bypass it again just to see. Miracle: the pump works now...! I'm glad it works but worried I did not find the reason why power was not going to it anymore... I clean the pin (4) and put it back in place; I had remove the relay yesterday (lots but LOTS of sand int the box) and clean them and the box (air) - don't know if it was that. Everything looks fine now; going for ride this afternoon but I will not go too far from home!!! Never know. I'll let you know if problem comes back

We're you able to change the fuel pump. In and get the black plastic over the pump to get off and any help would be appreciated. IMHO car won't start just kept cranking, I couldn't hear the fuel pump even with the back seat off. If anyone can offer any assistance it would really help. I have to get to work in the morning and need to finish the job.

Thanks

Yes I had so many mistypes when I read over my post. The metal cover under the rear seat in the drivers side. I unplug the electrical connection and removed the other gas line. It's a black metal cover holding the fuel pump in. I tried turning it, hitting with a hammer and a piece of metal I stuck in one of the holes. It's not coming off. Do I need to reals pressure. Any help is greatly appreciated and thanks for the reply.

Thanks for the reply dj Murphy! Did they by any chance have the name of the tool. The link you sent won't fully open on my phone. It takes me to autozone mobile home page and I am currently don't have access to a computer. Thanks again for your help and any advice given!

That's the one. I know when I'm using Google Chrome browser that you can check a box in the settings that says "show desktop site" or something like that and bypass the mobile site. Other browsers may also offer that option.
