CVT's are made to last. They've been around, and the CVT2 in the Patriots uses a METAL belt. It should last a long time!

From an Edmunds.com article:

"With these advantages, it's easy to understand why manufacturers of high-mileage vehicles often incorporate CVT technology into their drivetrains. "

here is the link:

The disadvantage of CVT's is that they still cannot be used on V8's and other powerful engines, but for 4 cylinder, they work great. They are computer controlled to prevent unwanted stress.

The trade-off is they feel less responsive, but they should be very reliable.

From the article referred to I've noticed «Power mirrors are heated and fold flat for parking. »

Again this affirmation about the exterior mirrors!!! Are the mirrors different for the european version ????

Nah, I think the heated mirrors are just a rumor--maybe something was wrong in a press release and it just keeps propagating as everyone plagiarizes everyone else without actually checking...

But I like those pics of the RHD Patriot splashing in the mud.

The article also indicates the door locks automatically unlock in the event of an accident. So much for a previous poster who indicated that the automatic locking feature was safer as it was safer to have the doors locked in an accident.

I bet either way has a good argument.

When you are rolling over in an accident or railed from behind, you would probably want the doors locked.
But when the Fire Dept gets there, they are going to want the doors unlocked.

Now if the system sensed an accident, kept the doors locked untill all motion had stopped THEN unlocked them. THAT would be something.

Also the statement about the mirrors folding flat for parking seems odd.
Don't they fold flat for off roading and getting thru tight spots?

If you are parking in a spot soooo tight you have to fold your mirrors, how are you suppose to get out of the Jeep?

They are some nice pics tho...

Cheers, Jim

YES, YOU HAVE TO REACH OUT AND PULL THEM IN! THERE WAS A TRAIL THAT I WAS ON AND THERE WAS A TREE THAT WAS TOOO CLOSE SO I HAD TO FOLD IN. IT IS NICE THAT THEY DO THAT! YOU CAN ALWAYS GO OUT THE BACK HATCH!! LOL..

Isn't that a trail rated badge I see on the driver's side?
Nope, side markers for sure. I don't see any tow hooks either. Also, the auto-stick has no "offroad" low gear.

I just find it encouraging that a FDI model could tackle that mud trail. FDII could nudge it loose in case it bogged down :smiley_thumbs_up:
