Yeah, like aroundincircles said, consider 225/65-17 tires. I put a set of Yokohama AT's in that size on my 2016 and I am very happy. They are definitely not too big for the wheel well, fit perfectly on the stock rims, and no lift is required. You get about 1/2 inch of additional ground clearance, and you don't even notice any slight change in gearing or gas mileage. Mileage may even be better on the highway for all I know. When your speedo reads 65 though, you may be going closer to 67, so you have to compensate for that.

All that these guys said, plus keep in mind a single KO2 laying around weighs about 40 pounds in that size. By comparison, a Cooper Discover HTP in the same size weighs 30 pounds, and a Goodyear Assurance CS Fuel Max in that size weighs 27 pounds. Also keep in mind the price....a KO2 is usually $180 dollars a piece IF you get a VERRRY good deal on them. According to Discount Tire Direct, where I'm getting all this info right now, KO2's in 225-65-17 are $201 apiece with 13/32nd tread depth, compared to $129 and 12/32nd for the HTP, and $118.97 and 10/32nd for the Goodyears. Now obviously those Goodyears are street tires, and not the best suited for off-road, but the tread looks ok and if you barely leave the pavement they may be the wisest choice. The KO2's are highly regarded as the best tire available, due to thick triple ply rubber and a durable compound. I even want some myself. But the price will weigh heavy on your wallet and that extra mass will weigh on your entire drivetrain. Just a little something to keep in mind. The HTP isn't quite as tough as the KO2, but it's a bit tougher than a street tire and will suit quite well if you're just gonna be taking some light trails without alot of sharp rocks or anything like that. The Discoverer AT3 variants are also worth a look, and are my second choice after the KO2.

Also keep in mind that the Patriot isn't set up for anything hardcore. That hasn't kept me from taking it to a few off-road parks and even Drummond Island, even on the crappy street tires that were all I could afford, and at street pressure....and driving out under my own power every time. But I keep the vehicle's limits in mind and try to pick my lines. Yes I know this is a long post, and I'm sorry if I'm going on too much about stuff you don't care about. Just trying to help you consider all the factors for a rather important purchase.

KO2's are certainly the most durable tires in the segment, but they're not the grippiest tires and I've heard their wet traction is the first thing to go as they wear. I'd only really recommend the KO2 if you wheel a lot, and in that case you'd probably want 29.5's or 30's.

As far as tire sizes go, I ran 225/65r17 on my Geolandars no problem without a lift, it's a good size to run if you do mostly street driving and IMHO the Patriots should have run that size from the factory, they just kinda look right.
