These two articles were from Automotive News (September 14, 2009):

Chrysler ends engine alliance
"Chrysler Group has ended its engine-manufacturing alliance with Hyundai Motor Co. and Mitsubishi Motors Corp... Hyundai and Mitsubishi have sold hteir interests in a Dundee, Mich., joint-venture engine plant with Chrysler... The plant now will build engines only for Chrysler vehicles, including the Dodge Caliber and Jeep Compass and Patriot."

Chrysler may use Fiat engine system in some U.S. models
"Chrysler Group may incorporate Fiat's new MultiAir fuel-saving technology in some gasoline engines, Fiat sources say.
Fiat S.p.A. considers the variable valve timing system a breakthrough. The company says MultiAir improves power by about 10 percent and reduces fuel consumption 10 percent....
2.0- and 2.4-liter four-cylinder units produced by the Global Engine Manufacturing Alliance... The engines are used in the Chrysler Sebring, Dodge Caliber and Avenger and Jeep Compass and Patriot. MultiAir units could arrive in late 2011."

that's very interesting. not so much in what it SAID, but what it DIDN'T SAY.

first, they mention the Caliber, Patriot and Compass as vehicles that use the Global Engine Manufacturing Alliance. fine.

BUT later on they mention ALL of the vehicles that use it, those mentioned above as well as the Chrysler Sebring and Dodge Avenger.

makes me wonder if the Sebring and Avenger will be around much longer....:icon_rolleyes:

The Avenger looks nice, but it and the Sebring are really mediocre when compared to vehicles that share the same price point. If they end up face down in an alley somewhere, I would imagine that whatever replaces them is likely to be a step up.
