So in my other vehicle I run Mobil 1 for 10,000 miles each change and right around 8,000 miles I have to add 1-2 quarts as its slowly burning oil. Looking to add another brand instead of buying individual quarts of Mobil 1 for $9-10 each when a 5 quart oil deal with filter is $25.

What are thoughts on cross brand interchange at the same weight? Any recommendations on a cheaper brand?

Why not buy a 5 quart jug and fill some quart bottles to have on hand? That's what I do with my Tundra since it takes 7 quarts and it drops the price down to about $5/quart.

Well thats what I have been doing however for the price and the low miles that the oil is in there seems as a waste. Looking more into it for the last thousand miles I am feeling more confident that an off brand with the same weight will be just fine. All major oil companies appear to be saying the same thing.

Fact: Mixing brands is not the best practice because the additive systems in each may be different and when mixed may not function as efficiently as desired. However, no serious problems will occur if you must add a different brand of equivalent quality between oil changes. It is very important to maintain proper oil level.

I guess I also assumed that you're running full synthetic and around here at least even the private label brands (Napa, O'Reilly, Supertech) are still $5-6/quart.

Once or twice a year Napa will run a sale @ 3.99/quart so that might be your best bet to look out for.

Obviously since Mobil1 is full synthetic :)
Yea I can get off branded synthetic for $5 or less.

Super tech full synthetic at wally world. It's API and Dexos rated and costs 16 bucks for a 5 quart bottle. As for mixing brands, as long as there is an API starburst on it it will be fine. I also frequently use carquest branded full synthetic. can usually get a 5 quart bottle with filter on special at advance auto parts for 20 bucks in my area. The walmart stuff is manufactured by warren performance products who is the largest bottler/wholesaler in the U.S. The carquest branded stuff is made by Amalie. Both WPP and Amalie are favorably viewed by the oil heads at bob is the oil guy. why pay more for a name and a fancy looking bottle that you just put your used oil back into to dispose of it? As recommended in this thread before, I ususally just pour some into a quart bottle and keep in the vehicle in case I need to add some. So far at 180K my Patriot isn't burning a drop between changes. I do my changes at 5K.

For the jeep I usually use the same off branded advance auto synthetic every 5,000 miles and right its about $20.00 for a oil change deal.
For that price I think we are in good protection.
