Long story short, my 2-month old 2009 Patriot has been contaminated with a "stench" that I can't get out, even after 2 professional cleanings. I have had it sitting with doors and windows open for 2 weeks and it still smells bad, and gives me an instant headache if I get into the vehicle.

I am now considering replacing the carpet and headliner (hoping the seats can be cleaned while out of the vehicle) with non-absorbent material, like vinyl.

I've seen vinyl flooring for other Jeeps, but not headliners. It would seem that once the entire interior is impervious to water, it would be a lot easier to keep clean (and odor-free!).

Anyone try this yet?

The "stench" is actually the perfume in the "Ozium" that my son sprayed all over to cover up the smell of "smoke". People who use this stuff think that it gets rid of the smell, but all it does is flood your nose with noxious fumes so you can't smell anything else for awhile, the underlying odor is still there. Same with Fabreze as far as I can tell.

I finally took out the seats and got a deodorizor consisting of a tub of clay filled with charcoal granules. Left the tub in the vehicle all closed up for 3 days and then opened it up and aired it out, no more smell. I hear there is a new charcoal block that can be used to do the same thing, which absorbs all odors and then can be placed in the sun to "recharge". I'll post back if I find one. I might need it later on.

Good to hear you have had the problem fixed. Wondering what caused the problem...Was it a Valet driver with bad B.O. (Sorry Couldn't resist, was on an episode of Seinfeld :D)
