I have a 2009 Patriot and bought the AVS Bugshield II and am having a BUGGER of a time trying to install it!!

It has four small conact points (tape) that are suppose to attach somewhere on the underside of the hood. However, the instructions are GENERIC and I cannot seem to figure out where and how far away from the edge of the front of the hood it is suppose to be set...

There is a rubber piece that stretches about two feet in the center of the front of the edge of the hood that appears to provide a seal of some sorts and I am not sure if the shield is suppose to go over it or in front of it - as the front gap is VERY small!

And, when I try to hold it in place with a little tape, it simply will not close!!!

Again, any and ALL assistance and counsel is appreciated!!

I put on a AVS bug shield, but mine must be a model I because it attached with screws. The tabs go under the front hood seal between the hood and the seal. Your shield is probably the same except it has sticky tape and not screws for the tabs.

This also has screws in addition to the tape and it is the II. Can you post some pictures of how yours looks from the inside hood and outside???

Thanks!

Mine had screws as well and installed pretty easily...
I do not think the installation will be dificult, I am just concerned that when I attach it that the hood will not shut properly...

Plus, if I do not attach it in the right spot then that will be the culprit as opposed to simply being such a tight fit.

If anyone can post a picture of where they attached it is respect to the rubber seal, I would appreciate it!

Thanks!

Zettler: I was going to post a picture and then my digital camera broke! I am still looking around for another one. Mine was only 3 years old. FYI, why not just mount the shield behind the rubber seal and close the hood as a test before using the screws or tape?

Mine is a Lund Hood Shield. Was easy to install. Hardest part was doing it alone, and ensuring it was in the correct position. Centered and even across the front of the hood. I used a Sharpie to mark the inside of the hood once I got it where I wanted it. It came with tape on the mounting tabs, plus 4 places for screws. I used the tape, and only 2 screws, so far. Figured I'd wait and see if it needed the other 2 screws.

It pushes down the rubber moulding in a couple places, no big deal, but you could remove it in those places I guess.

I it is tight, but no adjustment was needed for the hood to latch closed. I did need to adjust the pilars that the hood rests on just a tiny bit, to prevent the hood from vibration at highway speeds and/or high winds.

I do have some photos of the shield on the jeep, and the mounting under the hood, if you want to see those.

As far as the rubber moulding under the hood. I thought about removing it where the hood shield mounts were, and then thought maybe I''d just slice through so they could compress better under it, but decided to just try it as is, and it worked ok.

So I know what you were thinking when you asked about that, but mine seems fine just compressing the moulding at the mounting points for the hood shield.
