hey there folks,

Just looking for a little help... We have a Jeep Patriot 2007, and we have a problem with our car seat

We are wondering what is the best and safest car seat to use? i have looked at previous posts but they are all aimed at the american market and i am having trouble locating the car seats mentioned. i.e evenflo triumph and the britax regent and marathon....

Can anyone tell me a suitable car seat for a 13month old forward facing that i can buy in the uk?

Thanks

Hello & Welcome to the Family....Maybe a good idea to check with your dealer to see what recomendations they come up with!!!!

What APT says is 100% true. The longer you can keep your chile rear facing (i.e. the child is looking out the back) the safer they will be.

My wife is a certified inspector where we live. If you send me a PM with an email I would be happy to have her get in contact with you.

Most experts say 13mo should not be forward facing. They recommend 2yr minimum.

North American child seats are quite different than other countries. http://www.britax.co.uk/car-seats/evolva-123-plus/]This Britax looks like a good seat to last a long time, but I've heard nothing about it.

Thanks for your help everyone, still none the wiser - dealership cant help...

The UK dont really do rear facing seats for up to 2yr they only go up to 9months 12m at a push... i understand its better to keep them facing the back for as long as possible to prevent a "whip-lash" etc however my son is too broad to fit into rear facing seats now. And they question is not about which type should i use but which forward facing seat is suitable and safe to use in my patriot.

And the britax website does not have a Patriot therefore i cant match a car seat to my patriot...and the other websites mentioned only state american (?) styled car seats, and none which are available to purchase in the UK

So all in all im still none the wiser. So if there is anyone out there that uses a forward facing car seat group 1 or group 1-2-3 in the UK please let me know.... or i will have to trade in my jeep :(

Thanks

In theory this sounds great, and works with the infant car seats. However, you will find that with most of the next stage car seats for toddlers over 20-25lb, you will not have room in your Pat to keep them rear-facing. The safety guidelines state that over 1 yr old and over 20 lb can face forward.

Back to the original question..I have a Sunshine Kids car seat for my 1 yr old and it's great - not sure how old your child is and if you could get that manufacturer in the UK.

British Law!!....Dont forget it is illegal to carry a child in a rear facing seat in the FRONT which is protected by an activated frontal airbag!!

Compass = Patriot as far as rear seat compatability. Use that for the Britax UK compatability web site.

Okay, I found this site that should be useful for you. There are links to manufacturers through the Choosing a car seat are.

Most of the information I found on the NA site car-seat.org is mostly about Sweden, not the UK laws, like this thread.

TPS is right, the Patriot is small, so many convertibles do not fit well rear facing because of how long they are once installed. This is not usually an issue for the center position and most rear facing child seats, though. I also used a small convertible (Evenflo Titan V) rear facing behind my driver's seat, and still drive comfortably (6'4", long legs), but a SK radian would not fit.
