After purchasing my 09 patriot on 8/5/09, i read a lot of the threads on here and prayed that the common leak issue would not happen to me. Well, since i received the vehicle, we have had little to no rain until yesterday. I got in the jeep this morning and put it in reverse and a river started pouring out of my front dome light all over my new gps that was mounted on the dash directly below the dome light. luckily i got it out of the way quickly and it seems to be fine. I have already noticed a couple quirks with the radio since this morning as well. I will be heading directly to the dealer 1st thing in the AM along with a copy of RRT 09-044. I'll post again once i'm back from the dealer.

sunroof or no sunroof, doesn't matter. its going to happen sooner or later. having a sunroof doesn't dictate whether a car should leak or not. i have owned 7 or 8 cars, and all have had sunroofs/moonroofs, this is the first and only one to leak. it is not an excuse, and it shouldn't be stated as the root cause of the leak problem. the patriot is fundamentally flawed, period. feel sorry for you. lasted barely 3 weeks.

WOW I think we're distant twins or something--same EXACT story here. Purchased my '09 Patriot on 8/3/09, read about the leaks and crossed my fingers. Didn't have much rain, got a few showers yesterday. Got in the Jeep yesterday morning, put it in reverse, and a river started pouring out of my front dome light all over me, my fancy MyGig radio, and just about everything else.

Calling the dealer tomorrow.. sigh.

print out the manufacturer TSB for the leak in the front, AND demand that the entire stereo be replaced since water poured all over it. the last thing you want to be worry about will be mold and mildew building up behind the dash, combined with random shorts from the moisture and liquid from the leak over the next several years

called my dealer early this morning and they tried to make me wait until this Thursday to bring it in for repair. Not a very "Rapid Response" if you ask me. I stated that would be unacceptable and they agreed to take it in tomorrow. We'll see how long it takes them, i'm guessing a lot longer than the 0.2 hours quoted in the recall notice.

I agree that sunroof or not, there shouldn't be any leaks. After all, sunroofs have been around for a year or two (ya think?). It's certainly NOT new technology.

What some are interested in here is if the problem is more likely to happen in a Patriot with a sunroof than one without?

You still did better than I did. I can't get an appointment until after Labor Day, and they want to keep it for 2 days to make sure they fix it properly. I appreciate their willingness to be thorough, but I haven't even had this Jeep for 3 weeks and they say I have to pay for a rental because I didn't purchase extended service contract. Am I supposed to take 2 days off from work because I don't have an "extra" vehicle kicking around? Sigh.. it seems like something that was defective at delivery shouldn't be such an inconvenience.

I am with whitegt01. You want to run not walk away from ANY dealer who says a sunroof or a vehicle is *supposed to leak*. If that were even remotely true, there would be some disclaimer in the manual.

mikejeep, your dealer should cover your rental if its the 1st time that you are going in for this problem. your car is 3 weeks old like you said, this is unacceptable. others have gotten rentals for every single time they have brought in their pos patriot. argue and fight for it.

and 09patsprt. there are threads with owners who do not have a sunroof, and their patriot leaks also, search the forum...

Might be worth printing this thread out and taking it along.
Rocal

And that other one where someone find the fault and fixed it. I can't remember the name of that thread now, but it'd be worth while finding it.

No luck. Part of the headache is I bought the car from a dealer 300 miles away because that's the only Patriot I could get my hands on. I called several different Five Star dealers in my area, and got varying responses from "under 3000 miles you must take it to the selling dealer, no exceptions" to "we can't get to that until late next week and need it for a few days". Nobody would give a loaner or even a break on a rental car because I didn't purchase the extended coverage. I clearly explained that it's only 3 weeks old and was defective when I picked it up, but they all gave the same story. Only one dealer even knew what I was talking about when I mentioned the Rapid Response Transmittal that went out.

In the end, I was able to get an appointment on Thursday and they said they would make sure it gets done in one day. They have a service shuttle, guess it's better than nothing. Still very frustrating and not a good start to my first (and maybe only) new car ever.

Sorry to hear that I have an 09 with sunroof and we have been getting alot of rain around here and no leaks (knock on wood). I have had it since late July, good luck hope they figure out something cause its seems like its damn near unfixable from other members complaints.

just picked up the leak, i mean jeep from the dealer. They said it was due to a clogged drain in the sunroof module and also made a couple other adjustments. 1st thing i did was take it through the car wash and all was dry. Then got home and hosed it down for a good 10 minutes and still dry. We'll see what happens once we get a good soaking rain again.

yeah, the rain will def. be the true test, but i had to give it a shot at the car wash, it was the 1st time through the car wash (1st time ever rinsing with a hose too) and if it did leak at all, i was going to drive it right back to them. I'm sure i'll be back in there soon enough. I wonder how much Chrysler charges for a new dry car?

My riot sat at the dealerships storage lot for 11 months before I bought it, I've had it for a month now. With it sitting outside for almost a year, and there is no sign of any leak inside, no moldy, musty smell, no water stains. I have a sunroof and luggage racks. Is it safe for me to assume that mine won't leak? .
