Just curious...

I orderd original Mopar seat covers for my Patriot. Local dealers say they can't order them from the US so I ordered them direct and ended up paying an extra 100 US in customs duties. (ouch)

While I was installing them everything was going just hunkydory till I started on the back seat. There is no provision for the center head rest in the back seat. This was an easy fix, just cut 2 holes for the support posts.

Now my question... do the North American Pats have a head rest in the center back? I have noticed that this headrest is not an "open" model like the rest, but is a leather covered smaller headrest.

By the way... the cover look and feel great.:pepper:

I have a question regarding the head rest too. Was trying to get them off ... but they just slide up (while you push the plastic thingy at the base) to a certain point and then won`t come out! How does one take them off completely? I know it can be done `cause this seat cover shop had them out to put the covers on, but I didn`t watch them closely to see how they did it

Hi Boy George

If you look closely att the base of the "other" support bar you will see a less obvious long rectangular cut out. This is where you push to remove the head rest all the way.

Hi APT

Ok... I figured that it was an EC regulation requiring a head rest for all passenger places, wonder why your seats have fixed headrests in the back, while ours are adjustabe/removable?

US$100 in duties???? What was the declared value? $1,750 or more???

Does the "export" back seat have 3 adjustable head rests? If so I want one so I can get rid of the head rests and see out my back window full width!

Yea the Export version gets Adjustable/Removeable head rests on all seats ( By Law ) I have removed my small centre rear rest to give me better rearward vision in the drivers mirror, & I'm never going to carry 3 in the back anyway.

Hej Kabrohn

Actually Just for jeeps tried... the declared value was "Gift", but Sweden has one hell of a customs service when it comes to protectionism! They can (and do) open the package and decide on an arbetrary value of the item... If you don't pay it "disappears".

Sometimes you get lucky and it goes through with no duty, sometimes with a little duty, and some times you get it in the short hairs. Personally I think it is part of their national lottery system!

Jepstr67... I haven't removed my back headrests... they 2 outboard are the same style at the front seats, so you can see through them ok, the middle one is solid, but about 1/2 the size of the other two.

The US car have a solid seat back that is taller in the two headrest spots. Very annoying and poor for visibility. Between the head rests and the giant C pillars it is a wonder we can see anything out the back. It isn't so bad for just driving but for pulling a trailer it really stinks.

I just keep the seats folded down. For the rare times someone actually want to sit in the back, they can raise the seat...

No problem with rear visibility.

Although I did wonder why Jeep did not design the same open adjustable headrests in the back seat that are in the front seat.

Totally agree with you VW! Removable headrests in the rear would have been far better. MY Patriot is actually my wifes' vehicle and she keeps the right rear seatback down for visibility.
