Actually the sale of Chrysler will probably change more things than any of us would ever realize... The key factor involved is that it is now controlled by a North American Company rather than a European Company. I would expect things to be sold on a more level playing field now. IE CRD availability etc...

No Trail Rated CVT2 option for Europe ? Looks this way on the UK and German sites. Does anyone have any information on this ? Guess that means that we will get the same reduced choice of options when Jeep release it in Australia. Why do Jeep mess with what is working.
same in Greece, no trail rated-CVT2
what a shame
It seems I'll stay with my Cherokee XJ

I just read a review about the euro Pat in a german Offroad magazin.
And while the review wasn´t bad guess what did they critizised?
Yes, the big fat euro front bumper wich makes the Pat nearly useless offroad!

Blame Daimler

In my opinion, Daimler ruined CRX. Dr. Z took a functional company and drove it into the ground. Daimler knew nothing about the North American market except the luxury car market and they just assumed it would be the same as the European market. Big mistake in my book.

Did Daimler ruin Chrysler or did Chrysler rely too heavily on SUV and trucks in their portfolio? Those high-margin vehicles made Chrysler a darling in 1998, but with gas prices the way they are now. Consumers are shying away from low mpg vehicles. THAT has a greater impact to their bottom line than any alleged mismanagement by Daimler.

Even the Neon was profitable for Chrysler, whereas the Cavalier and Escort lost money for the others. In 1998, the Neon was at the peak of its popularity, because various quality issues were not widely known yet.

Instead of a third generation Neon, the Neon was cancelled to be replaced w/ the Caliber (and Patriot, but the Caliber is the mass market vehicle), which gets lower mpg. That was a Daimler decision, even more specifically under Dr Z.

Chrysler banked the money, and was sitting on a huge pile to carry them thru the next industry downturn. Where did it go? Daimler: they "engineered" things for Chrysler in Germany, and overbilled for their services. Too many decisions were made imperially by Daimler. Follow the money.

I vote with Daimler ruined Chrysler...

Daimler wanted those SUVs

That's why they were aching to get into the market. They wanted those huge margins. Before Daimler, CRX only had two SUVs to speak of, the Cherokee and the Durango. They also had a full line of light trucks which had the same margins as SUVs. Daimler expanded the lines with the Aspen, Pacifica (crossover my butt, just more road oriented), Liberty, Nitro and Commander. From 2 to 7 in a time of rising gas prices. Hmmmm... that was smart wasn't it. The size of the Dakota "small truck" also mushroomed in size to the point you almost can't tell it from a Ram 1500.

I dare Daimler to defend that strategy and blame it on "poor American management" which seems to be the tack their taking.
