winch bumper update #2 and tentative pricing

Ok, here's the update I referred to last night.

I am dropping my Patriot off at Kennesaw mountain this weekend for them to have all next week to start their work on the winch bumper. It's taken a bit longer to arrange as my family and I have had various commitments that required the use of the patriot. It's a lot harder than it first appeared to schedule a week without a vehicle that was purchased for daily use. Nonetheless, I've done it and looking forward to the final product.

Below is the estimated pricing for the bumper for the front. Keep in mind, this is just a guess from the folks at kennesaw mountain and is subject to change. so don't be upset if the price changes. Understandably, they can't give a final price until they actually take apart my patriot and fully see what they have to work with.

Wincher Pricing:

Base model bumper in satin black finish - $500
Available as winch bumper, receiver bumper or bumper only

Options:

Grill Guard - $85
Light Guards - $85
Intermediate grill guard bar with light tabs - $65
D rings or shackle mounts - $40 pair
Receiver tube in addition to winch mount - $60
Recessed Hella 90mm projector fog lights - $150 pair
Recessed 4" PIAA Ion 510 lights - $245 pair
Recessed 5" ProComp 55 lights - $115 pair
Rubber Dock Bumpers - $40 set

Colours:

Satin Black - Standard
Bare Metal - ($20)
Gloss Black - $25
Aluminum/Silver-Brite - $40
Scorpion spray on bed liner finish - $100

Also, they have agreed to do a group buy on these as well.

2 to 4 units - 5% (base drops from 500 to 475)
5 to 9 units - 10% (base drops from 500 to 450)
10+ units - 15% (base drops from 500 to 425).

Who all is interested? I saw a lot of people asking about the sema show patriot and where they can get the parts.. Well they are here right now (RRO lift and the kennesaw mountain bumper).

Kyle said he has been hounded by requests, so now is the time to speak up and let me know so I can update the list below for the group buy.

Usually a group buy is based on an existing product which has been designed and verified. IMO, he'll have more people stepping up to the plate after the first prototype is built and shown.

Make sure that the bumper gets weighed before installation. That'll be a deciding factor for me. The lighter the better.

And, price is plus shipping, right?

Agreed. I'm interested, but I want to see how it looks before I'll buy it. It'd also be good to know about the weight, how it looks with various options, any changes to the approach angle (good or bad), as well as possible compatable winches. Once a final product is released, I'll be able to give you a for-sure answer. Right now, the best I can give is a "definite maybe." Tell them to keep up the good work, I'm looking forward to seeing the result! :smiley_thumbs_up: :banana:

I"m very interested in the bumper, only thing being the shipping from the states which on some products can be wayyyy to high. Providing the bumper works without out any modifications having to be done I'd be in. I would pay up to $750 with shipping included for the bumper, although if it really is kick ass I could see myself paying a bit more.

It is illegal to modify the front bumper in Finland. I however remain interested in a tire carrier. Any plans on doing a rear bumper (or just a tire carrier modification)?

It is the rear bumper with spare tire carrier that I need most, or just the tire carrier. The license plate would have to be moved and lighted as well to be legal... sure hope someone will make it soon.

I also would be interested in front bumper, indeed the weight would have to be reasonable (front and back). And for me, it would have to accommodate 4 (2 pairs) of 4 1/2" Piaa lights. Can this be done?

Hi Homac

It's not just in Finland, but in fact the whole EU. When a car manufacture introduces a new vehicle, they must send the vehicle profile to a European Union Commission which oversees all safety matters concerning vehicles. Once this commission has approved the profile it may not be altered by anybody... well, this is not exactly true... you can alter your vehicles profile, but then you must resubmit the new profile for approval. This process involves tens of engineers and hundreds of burocrats and costs far more than the value of 1 vehicle.

The original idea behind the lower bumper on SUV's and trucks was to help prevent the larger vehicles "overriding" normal cars in a frontal collision (where the lower vehicle submarines the larger) and to help keep pedestrians from ending up under the vehicle. Actual experience seems to be showing that by having all the bumpers at the same height, they have reduced the "overriding" problem, now the larger vehicle just plows the smaller out of the way (can't beat the physics!)

As far as pedestrians go, the idea was that by lowering the point of impact, the person would be thrown on to the hood as opposed to going under the vehicle and having granny act as a speed bump. While this would seem to cause more damage to the vehicle (hood/windshield/roof) there is an unexpected benefit to it. Traffic laws in most countries are written so that the pedestrian only has the right of way on marked crosswalks. If they choose to cross the road at an unmarked point, they are technically jaywalkers and are then responsible for all damage to your vehicle in the event of a collision. By having the person laying on the hood of your car you do not have to crawl under the vehicle to get to their ID card so you can send their personal information to you insurance company! :)

Emailed Kennesaw Mountain. They said they can probably start taking orders in 2-4 weeks. Remember that the supply of aftermarket parts is contingent on our willingness to buy them. I offered to put a deposit on their new bumper, but they said to just order it when its ready. Can't wait! Should be ready while I'm on my honeymoon... Looks like they'll be taking my order from a beach in the Bahamas... LOL.

I too am interested but like everyone else I want to know more about it's bolt-on fitment and some pics of it. Is there a link to it somewhere? Not in this thread that I've found but then I think there's several threads about it. Right?

I read through all that bull****, a few weeks ago not to impressive. I'm willing to bet (and risk) that even with my Patriot lifted (no winch bumper) no one would ever notice the fact it was lifted, yes it would look a bit taller but its not like other jacked up trucks.

Oh well time will tell how this whole bumper thing turns out, in the other thread the AC components may be of issue, and i don't want to lose my AC:confused:

Not sure to the first question. As for the second, they cut the grill to make it work http://www.kenmtnac.com/Patriot.html. You can see they ran into a problem due to the AC unit.

As for options, a hitch receiver is an option. All options can be found here http://www.jeeppatriot.com/forum/showthread.php?t=23096 in post #7.

Might I also suggest to anyone interested in the Kennesaw bumper that all future correspondence be directed to the thread above, rather than continuing this one. Mods, since we have almost 2 parallel threads is it possible to eliminate/merge this one?
