13. Tips on buying a new or used MyGIG radio online from eBay
or from non-authorized dealers

If you are buying a MyGIG radio online from a non-authorized dealer note that you will NOT have a factory warranty. It is important to buy from a trusted source with excellent references, some of which offer their own warranty. Assure that the seller will provide a Dead On Arrival or longer guarantee, and that the unit will be carefully packaged. If purchasing a MyGIG radio with navigation, be sure that in addition to the radio that you receive the correct navigation antenna as well as the latest navigation software and owner's manual.

The largest seller of Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep navigation radios, parts and accessories on Ebay is mr.cd1. In addition to a nice selection of navigation radios, mr.cd1 carries the latest issue navigation discs as well as a wide assortment of different adaptor cables and other navigation related parts. A warranty is offered for most items. Click Here to see mrcd1's latest list of offerings. You can also send mr.cd1 an email: mr.scsi3@comcast.net. Mention this web site for an additional discount on selected navigations radios and parts.

I believe the EVIC is the vehicle information center. i thought this was an option that would show things like tire pressure etc. on the nav screen.
Yes it is.

EVIC (that blue/green LED screen below your speedometer) shows what you mentioned but it also shows music track numbers played, etc. (no titles!) and "I believe" it will show the Sat Radio station also. I know it shows the FM station you are listening too if they are transmitting under the "new" format.

One more thing to think about...

Since the RER for the Patriot was not available until 2009 model year, whatever you get, even if it's pulled from another vehicle, it won't be older than one year.
Ask them to e-mail you a pix of the manufacturing label. You will see the date there.

Just my 2 cents. With my 09 LTD, the MyGig+ UConnect +Nav + Sat radio, came to an extra $750 CAD. Factory installed with full warranty. Another well priced option from Jeep.

Seems strange that the US vs CAD pricing is out of sync; another example, the DEEP WATER BLUE color in US is a cost option, but in CAD is no cost?

Ipod input (UCI) not working w/ Nav unit (RER)

I just installed a (RER) MyGig Nav head unit, I replaced the standard six disc changer radio. My Patriot Ltd has the Sun & Sound Package w/ the Ipod input (UCI) in the glove box :smiley_thumbs_up:, worked great w/ the old head unit but now the Ipod input is not detected by the MyGig Nav unit . I would figure that my Ipod would show up under the AUX soft key on the MyGig screen :icon_rolleyes:. Any Ideas  Does my car need to be Starscanned ?

I think this is one of those options that might need the Starscanning process to be applied for the option to work.

For those who don't know, sometimes dealers need to update your car's configuration when you change electronics to make all options available.

When I replaced my REN (single CD with Aux input and Sirius) with the RER (Nav touchscreen and 30 gb mygig), no configuration changes were necessary to make the system work.

In fact, my dealer told me if we installed fog lights they wouldn't work without the car configuration update.

I agree with Steve above. I have the REN and was told if I wanted the uConnect I needed to take it in to have the mic installed and some "reprogramming" had to be done. Not knowing the system at the time, I did not ask about what was reprogrammed.

Now, I believe that the lockpick system can unlock the uConnect as well... but at over $200 a pop, not sure if this is worthwhile or not.

BTW Steve... what did you do with the REN?

Kahbrohn

I still have the REN, it's only been 3 days but not sure what to do with it.

I've been talking to Brian who is another newbie on this site about selling it to him as he lives pretty close to me but I think he's going in a different direction.

The guy we bought the RER from offers $75 if you ship the new REN to him. That seems liek too little for a brand new radio with Sirius. One thing we're investigating is how to transfer the 1 week old Sirius contract over to the RER unit which has Sirius but because we don't know how long it has left on it's contract we're going to have to figure that out before we do anything.

Do you have any better ideas?

Steve

That was what I was going to say... I couldn't remember who, but someone here on the forums was interested in upgrading their headunit but wanting to stay as compatible as possible for what I was reading. I think that selling it will be much better than the $75/credit - no doubt. If Brian doesn't buy it, make a post under the "The Outpost" thread. If no takers there... then e-Bay it.

I was considering buying one to install on my sons Rav4 but not sure how well that install would go.
