Hello everyone I'm back! This time I have a leaking K&N oil filter.
About 2-3 weeks ago I did a complete oil change, putting in Castrol Edge High Mileage 5w20 with a matching K&N filter. Every day after turning the car on, I will notice immediately a slow steady drip of oil coming from underneath the car. No oil will drip when the engine is off, only on. After taking a look under neither the vehicle, there was a wet ring around the oil filter on the skid plate. Looking up at the oil filter, you can see the oil dripping right off of the filter itself! Do you think maybe the filter was defective? It doesn't seem to be leftover oil that got stuck on the skid plate. Any info helps!

would replace filter
making sure threads are clean, ring is new and seated properly
sometimes could just be just filter not screwed on properly
be gentle as not to damage threads in case its cross threaded
also check near filter to make sure oil is coming from filter and not just dripping onto filter from elsewhere

Sounds like a good idea! I was planning on changing it sooner but I live in the north east of the united states and we just hit with a huge snow storm! I'll let you know how I turn out!

I noticed that when I had a K&N on mine. It wouldn't drip, just form a pool on the bottom of the filter. I swapped it for an Amsoil EA one at the next oil change, and havent had the issue since

The patriot seems to be pickier about oil filter tightness/torque than most vehicles. The first time I did an oil change on mine I put the filter (a Purolator PureOne) on "hand-tight" as I had done with other vehicles and noticed a slow leak after a couple hundred miles. After that I have always used a torque wrench and torqued the filter to factory spec (11 lb-ft) and haven't had any issues since.
