Anybody know how well the discovery sport does off road compared to the patriot? I think its ridiculous that jeep doesn't offer a 3rd row option in any vehicle. I think the grand cherokee would be a great choice for the third row option like the discovery has.

I owned one and now also own a Benz ML and the Patriot Sport I would honestly never take off road in its current state (maybe the FD).
You just creating a post to vent :D

I would like to know if the discovery sport can actually do anything off road. I think pretty much any awd vehicle can go through mud with decent tires but can it actually climb over rocks and up steep inclines.

No idea, I have never found myself needing to be in a situation like that while driving :D

Edit: wait I have, and I used an ATV for those hunting needs :)

And that my friend is a general misconception, just like the lie that their parts and repairs will put you in the poor house. I had no problems finding very cheap replacement parts for the few things that went on the GM motor. The rest of the car I generally found most what I needed online at a similar cost as any normal vehicle. The only gripe I had were the electrical gremlins that would pop up every once in a while and those were just annoying.

I am sure that any big vehicle can manufacture a quality product if they try hard enough. Sure there may be some bad models and years but maybe this discovery sport is more reliable. I just wonder if its a downgrade off road compared to what I have.

I have honestly never seen a discovery sport do any legit off-roading. That could just be due to the fact that I live in the US. They seem to be popular overseas. Some of those high end "off-road" vehicles have way too much luxury to do any real off-roading.

Commander had 3rd row available, Grand Wagoneer is rumored to have it at release.

Reading about it, I would say that it is going to be comparable off road between the two. Both have 4cyl engines, both have fwd based awd systems without a two speed transfer case. The discovery has similar ground clerance to a fwd patriot (8.3), but not sure how that is measured, could be comparable to the FDII patriot, as I'm still not exactly sure where they measure that from. but depending on the package, it has a much better electronics package to give you better traction off road. Its based off the evoque, which was not meant to be a crazy off road vehicle like the range rover or discovery.

Ummm ... my discovery had an 8 cylinder and a huge ground clearance .... not comparable.

Discovery =/= discovery sport. Two completely different vehicles.

a discovery is an awesome off road vehicle, a discovery sport is a 7 passenger city crossover that happens to be made by a company known for making awesome off road vehicles.

Ah I see now .... its a new model .... anyways Colorado just get an older Discovery, they are cheap awesome easy to fix and blow all jeeps away when off road ;)

Not looking very hard

I guess you can't even get stock skid plates for them. I think I will stick with the patriot. I still wish the grand cherokee had a 3 row option. MrMischief is right, the commander sucks.

what about a 3rd gen durango? it has a 3rd row, and is the same platform as a grand cherokee. I don't see a whole lot about its awd drive train though, I would have to do more research.

what about an older tahoe? my parents still have their 04, and its a badass off road, and fits like 36 people in it.
