Remember to replace the tranny mount to. Or you'll mess up your new motor mounts.

I had a brand new set of factory motor mounts and tranny mount as of Dec. last year, but the motor mounts some time between when I put them in, and when I looked at it this month. In that time frame. I had the engine replaced, and took it out on a very short drive on a basic/simple trail.... after that trip in feb, when it ran like total ****, I parked it and have not driven it since.

So, not all is lost, I spent time today screwing around with sensors, and it seems like it may not stall anymore. won't be able to tell until I actually put load on the engine (driving it around) and I have no idea what shape the transmission is it. It was NOT happy last time I drove it, but since I haven't moved it more than a few feet from the last time I went out, i cannot really say how it is right now. Picking up a throttle cable tomorrow and will replace tomorrow.

Things on my to-do list still:

1) check the fluid in the front diff (has developed a minor leak)

2) make sure the front axle is centered, make sure that's not the reason it is hitting the exhaust

3) replace the oil pan gasket

4) have somebody replace the transmission pan gasket and filter

5) replace the o rings on the oil filter adapter

6) new wheels

7) new seats

8) roll cage

9) replace the valve cover gasket

10) maybe actually drive it?

11) do something about the brakes.

12)?

13) profit.

AIC, hopefully you got a handle on it now. With all your hard work and determination you'll be able to have some fun driving it. Keep the videos coming as in off road that is as we'll know mission accomplished in that aspect. You are way overdue. :smile2:

Thanks earth.

Got to drive it today! I put in a new throttle cable, new air filter, checked the level in the front diff (its developed a leak), and then drove it to the gas station for some fresh gas, and then to the store to pick up milk for the wife, no issues at all! I did have to take a hammer to the exhaust down by the front drive shaft, it stopped the rubbing going over speed bumps, but I'll have to see what happens next time I take it off road. I may need to pay to get it fixed, since I don't have a pipe bender myself here, but we'll see.

My oldest daughter insisted on going with me when I took it for the test drive:

Might plan a camping trip in the next couple of weeks.

Don't pound on the exhaust too much or it'll screw up the new intake-exhaust gasket, been there myself. Congrats on all the hard work as its finally running.
yeah, I kept it to a minimum, heated it up to red hot with a torch, and then tapped it, I didn't want to ruin anything, and I think the drive shaft moved it most of the way, I just wanted to make sure that it wasn't going to keep damaging the drive shaft.

Drove my XJ to work today. which is a HUGE accomplishment. Its been nearly a year since I was able to do that. So I really feel like I'm almost back to like a base level of running and driving. Hopefully it stays that way so I can start actually modifying it.
