Got my decal yesterday, thanks, reminded me this morning to go and check out the new mag, but nothing yet. Guessing they are still having problems.

I've sent Frank an email requesting an update... Seems pretty responsible so I expect a post soon...

Hey everyone, sorry for the delay. We submitted the final file for publishing on Tuesday morning but there was a problem with the Flash conversion so we've had to postpone the release till Thursday afternoon, July 2. As soon as it's up and live, I'll post a response here. And just so y'all know, the Patriot tribute layout turned out very well. :) Thanks to all who contributed.

Cheers,

-Frank

So I got the e-mail saying I would be "grandfathered in" to a free subscription since I'd been with JPFreek since before they started charging, and to "stay tuned for more info regarding the process." I never got another e-mail, and when I tried going to the site, I couldn't find a way to download the new issue without being charged. Can anyone send me a PM with instructions on what to do?

Is it just me or did they just now change all their issues so that you need to pay in order to see them? I downloaded their past issues while waiting for the latest one and I didn't pay anything, but now I can no longer see those PDF download links.

Kind of a bah humbug feeling as I was expecting them to continue offering the magazine for free and was looking forward to seeing how that Patriot thing turned out. I can understand the guys wanting some money out of their effort, it's just the suddenness and timing of the change that caught me off guard.

Oh well. At least I have those back issues to read through - they should give me some clue as to whether I'll feel it worth my money to pay for the download or not. Seems kind of stupid that they changed all their back issues to where you have to pay for them. There is no way in hell I would pay for a magazine like that without the ability to see what they have to offer.

Hey everybody, first off thanks for all your contributions to the latest issue of JPFreek. We did change our model effective with this issue for anyone who wasn't previously a subscriber as the magazine has been free for over three years and it does take a long time to prepare, layout, and publish. With that said, we always want to make things fair and equitable for everybody so here's the link to view our current issue, in its entirety, completely free! If you like this issue (which we hope you do) then pick-up a subscription and help support our efforts. At $5.95 it's the best deal you'll find on what we like to pride ourselves in as the best Jeep publication available on the market today.

Check out the new issue at: www.jpfreek.com/current/current.html

Special thanks again to each of you who contributed in this issue. You guys sure have some very sweet rigs. Cheers!

I gotta say, I'm not much of a magazine person, and I certainly don't regularly pick up Jeep or 4x4 mags, but JPFreek magazine seems very well put together. Not to mention it is the only magazine that has even requested pictures from our forum members! If you haven't looked through the e-zine, please do so before you spew off comments like "I'll never pay for a subscription". The publication has interesting stories, how-to articles, and advertisements. I hope, and am confident that JPFreek will continue to feature the Patriot/Compass in the future.

Pretty impressive magazine! :smiley_thumbs_up:
I'll have to look into a subscription. Sadly the Patriot pics looked lame next to some of the buggies in that pub.

Thanks for sharing it. :smiley_thumbs_up:

If you'll actually bother to read what I wrote, I said I would never pay for a subscription without first seeing a sample of what I'd get. Slight difference between never ever paying for something and not buying something on blind faith. My whole point was that last I checked, there was no easy way to see any of the issues without first paying for them. This to me strikes as not a good idea since it kind of stops one from looking through said e-zine before making a purchase decision.

As for JPFreek, cheers! :smiley_thumbs_up: Looked over the Patriot pictures. The images do look kind of tame compared to last issues Liberty photos... You guys should consider another try a little later. I think? There should be much more impressive photos available later - maybe even after this summer? (I for one got first decent off-roading photos this May... :) )

Once again, the Patriot is NOT a Liberty, Wrangler, or Cherokee!!! I feel the pictures presented represent what the Patriot is all about - getting out on light trails and having some fun - without the expense of those modified buggies. I'm not sure, after all we've done with ours, you'll ever see a picture that doesn't seem lame next to that of a Liberty or Wrangler, the Pat just isn't built for extreme modification or off-roading - unless you have the money! It is still a quite capable Jeep and I for one am happy someone has bothered to publish SOMETHING on it! The only other thing I've seen was Expedition West's original review, which was positive also - I'm not talking about the dumb "Motor Trend" type reviews, but those which actually put the Pat through its paces.

BTW, Tony & Camas, where are your guys' off road pictures?

I was very excited to see the layout on the Patriot, all the pictures looked great. I thought it is a very well put together magazine. Just hard to get use to that it is on the screen and not in my hands though. Great representation of these great vehicles.

Thanks JPFreek

Eh. Compare the pictures in the magazine with, for example, these two posted here by some random guy in the off-road pictures thread. ;)

Genuinely stuck in the ruts.

China Wall Trail, CO - kept up with the Liberty's.
Those are much more impressive and closer to, for example, the Liberty pictures JPFreek had in their previous issue! It isn't a capability issue, just a lack of action photos issue.

(The magazine is looking pretty good, by the way. My only problem is, I get very jealous about all those desert trails those guys seem to spend all their time on... By the way, for those that have already gotten off their arse and subscribed (gotta get to the bank and renew my credit card first) - is there still an option of a PDF download? I dislike Flash gadgets, would prefer a download.)

BTW, Tony & Camas, where are your guys' off road pictures?
I've posted what I've got before. Didn't have anything suitable before the May 1st deadline, hence no submissions to the zine.

Actually, this is a very good point and I'm going to see if we can get previews made of at least our most recent issues added to our site soon so that visitors to JPFreek.com have a means of seeing what kind of content is in the magazine and get a feel for the magazine before making a purchase. Makes complete sense so thanks for the suggestion. :)

And for everyone who played a part in contributing to this issue, a big thanks to all of you. We'd be more than happy to feature more Patriot content in future issues so if you've got a cool story to share of a rockin' trip you've made or plan to make, shoot me a PM or email at editor@jpfreek.com and let me know about it. Thanks again!
