havent seen any with topo maps

just wondering on any gps that gives out all of the trails. I have a tom tom and it doesn't get a lot of the dirt roads. One that would take waypoints would be usefull.
I used to have a Garmin Etrex Legend, that came loaded with a topo map,
Since it was a handheld, meant to be used in the bush and not on the road,
Topo map was primary, road details was secondary,
this was also +10-15 yrs ago before mobile gps became commonplace,
want one for the field, i would look for handlhelds with topo maps,

Magellan, Garmin, any of the more hiking oriented units should work for off-roading. Work much better than a bloody TomTom, at least... :)

Yes, definetly go hand held on this one. Some you can get a car mount and external antenna for. I've never needed the antenna for mine as long as it is sitting on the dash. Mines old but works great. I have a Garmin GPS12 I usually just plot out my trails I want to take on the computer first and upload to the unit.

I love my 60csx... at the time of purchase it was the top of the line Garmin handheld and does both off road even turn by turn onroad directions. I highly recommend it and they can be found for pretty good prices on ebay now. If you more interested in the latest tech than a good deal Garmin makes a newer model now, just do not recall what its called. I'd check their site for more info.
