From what I understand, replacing the stereo in my 2014 Patriot with the MyGig touchscreen radio, the only thing I really need to pay attention to is to get the low BUS and not the high speed BUS. Also, I'd prefer not to get an anti theft unit, from threads I've read it could be a PITA to get the security code. My question is - aside from those things, will any work? For example, I found a good deal on an REN unit, but it's from like 2008 - would that still work in my 2014 Jeep? Is there a year compatibility I need to look for? Thanks in advance.

Yes, get the LOW speed bus and most ebay sellers provide the security code, just ask if they do. Do you have UConnect or Sirius? Steering wheel controls? If so then you want to get an RBZ or RHB for plug and play compatibility. Otherwise you are going to have to screw around with adapter harnesses trying to get things to work. Thanks for your reply! Yes, I do have UConnect and Sirius - no steering wheel control, sadly (I wish). I found an RBZ unit on eBay for only $289 - from other prices I've seen, this seems to be a fairly good price I believe. I made sure it was low speed. Can't wait for it to come in!

If you boot up the unit and it has the blue screens you can update it to the newest software. Get the ISO's here: http://mygig-disk.com/download-rbz.php
