good luck getting ANY in-warranty repair done. do you really think Chrysler is repaying its warranty claims to the dealers? NOPE! they are just at the end of the list in a long line of debt holders. there was an article of a dude who was owed $1.7M by Chrysler and has yet to see 1 penny. it's absurd.

if his 2009 is already rusting, he is making a good decision...to off-load it while he still can. that could just be the tip of the iceberg so to speak...who knows what else is wrong with his Patriot.
The last paragraph of your quote was exactly what he was saying. It looked like his mind was made up.

possible easy fix,

I was gassing up today and the next pump over a guy pulls in driving a white FDI Patriot. I thought this is kind of neat a black Pat and a white one gassing up at the same time.

He asks me if I like my Patriot and I said yes.

He wasn't too happy with his.

Said he liked the gas mileage but he didn't like the fact that it was a 2009 and it was rusting already.

He showed me along the top of the rear hatch where it was rusting along the bolts and a place that had a bad weld where it was rusting as well.

Said he hated to do it to somebody but he was unloading his Patriot and getting a Toyota Tacoma.

as long as the rust isnt substantial, and not between panels,
should be an easy fix,
as other poster stated, could be just superficial discoloration,
wasnt there another post where someone had what looked like rust spots that was buffed out?

The question is, are there anything similar out there that you would do a switch???? CRVs, no; Rav4, no no; LR2, no, no, no; Escape, no, no, no, no, Koreans' CUVs, even worst! I cannot comment on the 07 & 08s, but the improvement they made on the 09s, interior, engine, CVTs, have made the Patriot the CUV to beat in the market. It's no longer a follower, but a leader in this segment. Go out & "DRIVE" one, see & feel the difference.
you should open a Jeep dealership and sell these things!

CRV - Rav4 = not bad; although they're probably not great offroad, taller people can SEE out the windshield without getting taco-neck-syndrome
(It's one of the pet-peeves of my BF; as he is 6'4" and has no problem seeing the traffic signals in the Rav4, but has to bend over a lot to see them with the Patriot.

LR2 / LR3 = Not really an off-roader, and probably out of the price-range for anybody who bought a Patriot. Plus, you might as well get an Escape if you get the LR2; they're the same vehicle, with slight upgrades.

Korean's aren't out of the battle -- they are cheap to insure (because nobody steals kias or hyundais), and Hyundai has that 'return if you lose your job' thing; and they're quality is getting up there. I can't speak for the other companies, like Kia (which is GM owned), or other companies, i have no experience with.

I'm not overly impressed with my Patriot either. But it does get the job done. It does offer the most bang for you buck.

But rolling off the showroom floor there are a number of things I wish were better, but I've learned to accept the sacrifice. The lack of power stinks but it is offset by the decent gas mileage. Sloppiness and rough ride and the city streets compared to its competitors aren't to be desired. The week sheet metal used all over the damn Patriot stinks. I can't lean up against my Patriot without worrying i'm going to dent it. My 1993 Honda civic even has thicker sheet metal. I've had to have my front lower control arms and passenger side upper tie rod replaced under warranty. The interior isn't that great. Lots of plastic and my elbows hurt. The interior noise is so loud. But after all this, it still was the most bang for my buck. As soon as my warranty runs out, I'll be looking to trade mine in as well.

So in general, I am pleased with my Patriot because I knew of the the weak points and high points. But at the end of the day I can see why the Patriot gets poor reviews.

btw, i have an 08 Patriot FDI :D
