I think this member did a great job. It could be done on the Patriot also.
I wouldn't dare do it myself but may have it done.

material :

-gutterguard
-mouting bases
-tie wraps
-epoxy glue (and / or screws)

All openings of the Patriot front facia coul be covered this way*

Waiting for comments and opinions

You should be able to have it done no problem. As for looks, I like it. As for utility, it may help in preventing bugs getting into the radiator blades over time (but not eliminate the proble completely).

I would do it but money/time is tight right now.

Question: Would the Jeep interior grill interfere or would you eliminate it?

Question: Is that mesh plastic or painted aluminum? (Plastic would be better IMO)

-I think I would eliminate the actual vertical stripes of plastic in the 7 upper openings. I don't think anything else would interfere.

This member used polymer gutterguard.
I would use plain aluminium mesh sheets 35''X12'' (natural aluminum grey, rust resistant, no painting, therefore no scratches).
Guess I'll need two sheets. Aluminium grey will look nice with my green patriot.

Aluminium mesh is quite tightly woven and very strong, no bugs, no rocks getting in and still allowing proper ventilation.

I too will have to check the cost of this project. But it will eventually be done.

I believe I saw someone who did this before in another thread. He only did the bottom slots though and it was a Light Sandstone Pat. It did look nice... If I find that thread I'll edit it in here again.

EDIT: Found that thread: http://www.jeeppatriot.com/forum/showthread.php?t=5195 and it was a black Pat in fact. Very nice contrast. What I like about your idea is the tie bases you will epoxy in there. No ties showing.

Another way of doing it.

IMO the wrangler mesh grill mod is the way to go for a very aesthetic look and complete covering of all slots. Yes the front facia has to be taken off. It's a bigger job.

Aehm, isn´t it the same thing whatariot did already a while ago for the lower openings?

http://www.jeeppatriot.com/forum/showthread.php?t=5195

Oh ,lol, it was already posted. Sorry i have overseen the post.
yes it's quite similar but a different technic with mounting base units for zip ties glued or screwed to the back of the facia. the assembling is different. It also allows individual mess grill cut pieces to be used for each if the 7 upper vertical slots. Same thing for the horizontal lower slots. The technic is more demanding (taking off the facia) but allows a nice and solid piece of work.

That is ghettofabulous! I am sorry but I would never glue that crap to my grill.
What crap are talking about, You should not take position without knowing or checking.

You don't want to protect your radiator, your problem...

As for «ghettofabulous», I guess that's where you come from by your attitude and the way you talk «Mister knows it all»

Take a look at this

and tell me that's «ghettofabulous»

Think before you talk Jackster, you know what you can do with your comment... ?&*$# it up your *\@.

Take a good hard look at my ride because it's pimpin' ghettofabulous and I plan on adding more bling. I personally don't like the black rims but I don't trash somebody's ride because that's the choice they made. Someone apparently worked pretty darned hard to accomplish this mod so show a little respect even if you don't like it. A simple "I don't like it and wouldn't put it on my Patriot" would have sufficed. As for the really rude reply, makes me feel embarrassed that person was once a POTM. That kind of nonsense doesn't belong on this forum. Shame on you!

Sorry if I got carried away but that kind of reply, just shoots up my pressure. Yes I could of answered in a nicer way if the comment had been written in a correct manner. So no shame, Having been a POTM doesn't make me an angel. just a spontaneous reaction to a comment which shouldn't had been made. So if Jackster is willing to change his words, I am willing to apologize.

As for the mesh I'll be getting aluminium sheets 35'' X 12'' that cost 30$ CAD each. So it won't be too flimsy and no it won't break. You have to use quality material if you want something that looks good and is strong and resistant. Look at the 2 pics that's no rain gutter material and it's not plastic.

That stuff simply lacks quality and taste, and shouldn't be glued to a vehicle. The radiator will be fine, but I am working on my own version, which will be made entirely out of steel. I will post pics upon completion.

Thats an interesting idea.

Are you planning to replace the entire grill piece that encases the headlights?

If not, I dont really see a point to putting steal inserts in the grille were the slots are now.

The reason I say that is, the entire front facia is plastic so steal inserts would be pointless IMO.

Either way, I cant wait to see what you do. I love seeing custom work. :smiley_thumbs_up:

I guess this is where we meet : quality and taste.

I f I brought up the subject of mesh grill inserts again, it was to push members of this forum, especially the ones who did the mods to bring their ideas on the subject, to mentioned different problems encounted and to have other members come up with variations so that as a team we could developp the best mesh grill insert possible for the Pat.

You say the radiator will bw fine, without a mesh inserts? I'd like some protection against rocks, moths, flies or other insects. A mesh grill would also add to the look.

Jackster I'm 100% with you for quality, strenght and taste. Up to now from all the replies to this thread I haven't decided how I will do it.

I'm trying to keep the cost as low as possible and I'm no mechanic nor body man so mod has to be as simple or easy as possible. The mesh grill has to be solid so I don't need to take off the front facia again to fix it.

I come to the conclusion that maybe I should consider something to install from the exterior not the interior and with that in mind the only solution I have right now which combines quality, taste and strengt are the ready made inserts from Cloud rider Canada made of stainless steel and fixed with screws from the exterior (few holes to drill) they are specifically made for the Patriot (different models offered)

Maybe this should inspire you and you could come up with an idea for mesh inserts that are cheaper than these. Take a look
www.cloud-rider.com

Finally, I'm sorry and apologize for the way I've answered your reply in this thread.:boxing: I hope we can make it something of the pass and work together for the benefit of this great community.

If it's cost you want to keep down Pierre... your idea seems more than fine by me. I am thinking about what you were planning on doing. Inexpensive. In taste (IMO at least). I am leaning on doing it with a black mesh since my Pat is Light Sandstone and a sport. the black will maintain the contrast created by the mirrors, door handles, trimmings, etc.

That Cloud Rider stuff looks nice but it's too expensive for me.

i might do this, im debating on if it will work well with the theme ive got going, lol. i think i might also do some custom pinstriping:)

oh wellz
and as fot all the hate in this thread, just chill out man(men, women, girls, small woodland creatures) its a mesh mod, not the end if the world and certainly not etiq- oh shoot eddykit class, or english class. just chilllllll :D

You're right it's very expensive...that's why I'm looking for another way of doing it. Black mesh and sandstone will look great on your Pat. On my green Pat aluminium or steel natural color would be OK I think.

My puzzle now :

- can it be done without taking the front facia?

-Can I have an access in the eventuallity that I need to fix the mesh or its mouting bases?

-How strong and how long would these zip ties and mounting units last.

-Should they be glued or screwed.

-What glue is the best.

-Here temperature varies from -30° c to +30° c will these plastic parts break in that kind of cold or temperature variation?

-Will the glue resist or crack up?

-What will be the cost if I have it done in a body shop. Is it worth the difference with the cloud rider inserts?

-Don't know what to do:doh:

One thing is sure the Cloud Rider inserts will last, will not rust, won't break and can be installed or fixed front the exterior of the facia...is this worth the price?

Can't make up my mind...but I have time to think it over since budget is on hold for now.
