Bought a can of VHT niteshades for about $10
I did all the work myself, took about 35 minutes.
My idea was to tape out the two white lines on the tail lights, so that everything is darkened but the white lines... i think it looks really good and im happy with the results.

The exhaust is a Flowmaster 40 series with a 3" tip. I paid $140 for exhaust and labor and $25 for the tip, it has a nice rumble and is even really loud going under bridges I was very suprised. I was going to get duals pointing out to the side but the mechanic told me the patriots are tight on space and he had to do a custom exhaust and had to charge me close to $325, and i honestly didnt want to put that much money into an exhaust..hope you enjoy:smiley_thumbs_up:

Yeah i wanted it so you could see at night still. and i just used some blue masking tape and a razor blade to cut it. you can get VHT niteshades at any auto parts store you just gotta call around

I'm sure that's just what your insurance company will say too...

BTW, to the OP, you might want to ensure it's actually legal to black out your lights in your area... around here, it's not, and it'll get you a pretty hefty ticket and your vehicle pulled off the road until it passes an inspection.

how many layers did you use on your tail light. by any chance did you use any sand paper or clear coat? you should put the steps you use when you apply the vht spray tint. so i could stop wasting your time. but hey thanks a lot.i think this is the best topic in this web site lol

Insurance hassle aside, what about possible injuries for the rear ender?
Well, insurance affects that too...

Around here, in the event of a rear-end collision, the government auto-insurance company that everyone has to go through will pretty much universally determine it to be the fault of the driver doing the hitting... unless it can be proven that brake lights weren't working... or if it's shown that they were tampered with so as to hamper their function or visibility. That includes tinting.

If you black out your lights and get rear-ended because the next guy couldn't see you were stopping, it's quite likely your insurance won't cover you, including any injuries you may suffer. Nothing like having whiplash and not being able to get coverage for your medical bills...

VHT Niteshades when layed evenly and properly is significantly better than the plastic light covers that are offered on other vehicles and sold quite frequently. That said, the output is still going to be less than 100%. From some other forums I frequent, a lot of people like to install LED bulbs after niteshading their tails.

i didnt use any sandpaper but i did buy some clear coat for PLASTICS. if you get acrylic enamal clear coat for metals it will make your tail lights look rough and ugly. some acetone or nail polish remover is what i used to get rid of all grease, dirt, etc....on the lights

Make sure you mask the surrounding area off really well. Spray paint will find its way through any gap in the newspaper or whatever you use. Tape all the edges where one piece of newspaper ends and the next begins. Be anal about it. I learned this the hard way.

yeah this is true jeepfrank. i taped off from the top of the light up to the top of the window and i still got some overspray so just be really picky about how you tape things off because that VHT spray will get everywhere

I have this on my dodge ram tails too. did yours come out with any paint spotting or small circles? I bought mine off ebay if anyone is looking for the nightshades btw. Its a good cheap way but doesnt quite match the gloss of patriots paint. has a little more dull/flat color to it

Do you WANT to get rear-ended when the driver behind you can't see your brake lights? Is that the effect you're going for?
lol, eh, I got rear ended with the regular lights! lol

Are tinted rear/front lights legal at night?

Sure - they're legal in the day but not at night :smiley_thumbs_up:

Depends on the jurisdiction, but here in BC, tinting ANY of your lights is illegal, period. According to the regulations:

4.04 (1) Lighting devices required by this Division must be maintained in good working order.

(2) Lamps and reflectors required by this Division

(a) must be securely mounted on the vehicle,

(b) must not have any cracked, broken, missing or incorrectly installed lenses, and a lamp must not have bent or broken rims that allow water to enter the lamp, and

(c) must not be shielded, covered or obscured by any part of the vehicle or load or by dirt or other material.

[en. B.C. Reg. 476/98, s. 2.]
