Hello,

Does anyone know if MOPAR has an oil cooler kit for Jeep Compass 2.4 w/6 speed auto, M-Y 2016?

This in conjunction with proper hitch gives tow capacity of 2K lbs. ...perhaps this is wrong, It might only be for certain models.

anyone know?

Thanks

-Glen

Yes, the OE Cooler is part # 4884757AE for just the cooler (an oil/water heat exchanger that attaches to the filter mount) and part # 82210701 for the kit that includes the new set of radiator hoses to plumb the cooler into the cooling system.

I'm personally not a fan of oil-water heat exchangers (since if the get an internal crack oil and coolant will mix), but as long as the vehicle is under warranty you'll likely have to stick with the OE cooler to keep the warranty in effect.

Thank you Dmill

The hose kit you mentioned is for a manual shift or CVT.. not 6 speed? Per ebay post.

2 towing groups are available from the factory for the Latitude w/6 speed;

#1 Trailer Tow Prep Group = includes wire harness, oil cooler, full size spare.
#2 Trailer Tow Prep Group by MOPAR = Class 2 receiver Hitch.

I have a sport model and the only towing option is #2 above giving 1000lbs towing.

The towing guide provided by Jeep; (system won't let me post a URL yet)

Indicates that sport is not capable of 2000lbs??? What's different? The dealer parts guy I talked to today couldn't figure it out either. He said find a window sticker for a Latitude w/#1 above and he would find the difference.

Anyone know anything about this? I would like to have the factory 2000lbs towing capacity.

Thanks in advance!

I don't believe there are any differences in the rad hoses between transmission type, your dealer may be able to verify (The rad hoses in the oil cooler kit just have "T"s added and smaller hoses that go to the oil cooler coming off these "T"s).

From what you are stating, the trailer tow package with the oil-cooler was not available as a factory option on the Sport (I just verified via the Jeep website, that this isn't listed as an option on the Sport for the 2016 model year). There is no difference in the drivetrain between trims, so by adding the oil cooler you should be able increase your capacity to 2,000 lbs. , but I'm not sure what effects it may have on the warranty, not being a factory option at that trim level. If your dealer isn't sure you may want to check with FCA customer support directly (there should be numbers in your owner's manual). Manufactures often like to "package" options and only allow them on certain trims to force you to order the more expensive trim if you want certain factory options.

Well DMill89,
Looks like I am SOL. I don't see why it wouldn't work though.

Original inquiry below;

Dear Glen,

Thank you for your recent inquiry to Mopar.com.
After verifying with your VIN the part number you provided for the
cooler kit is not compatible currently at this time we do not have a
part that is compatible with your vehicle. Speak with our local Dealer
to see what other options may be available for the cooler kit.

Thanks again for contacting Mopar.com

I see absolutely no reason why it wouldn't work from a physical compatibility perspective, but since it is not a part originally offered on your vehicle/trim level, that would give them an excuse to potentially deny any warranty claims that could possibly be shown to be related. You'd be in the same boat with an aftermarket cooler, it would certainly work fine if sized right, but wouldn't meet the requirements for warranty coverage.
