Hi everybody,

I Will order the speed control option from Mopar then will make it installed by chrysler dealership. I just can't take it anymore... the gaz pedal ar so hard after a couple of hours driving... I will update my post when everything will be done.

Question: How do I know if my Pat is wired? And will this affect the labor at the dealership?

Thanks!

The labor fee at a certified Jeep dealership is already pre-priced. It estimates how long it will take, and they charge you by that. They really shouldn't charge you more anymore that what their book says.

I have the same exact model as yours ('08 4x2 5spd manual Sport "D"). It is NOT pre-wired, but the kit comes with ALL essential wiring.

My dealer quoted me around $300 for the labor. I ended up doing it myself.

You guys might want to call around to some of your local stereo/remote start places. I got my cruise installed for $275 out the door. It's the exact same cruise unit that the dealer gets as it's made by the same supplier. I just got it done a month ago at this price.

Nice

I ordered all of the parts separately from http://www.wholesalemopar.com/. I saved $100 by doing this. The kit comes with extra parts that you end up throwing away. I live in Canada and Mopar parts are a rip off up here so I get them shipped to a PO box in Washington.
Good for you!
Have you done the installation yourself?

Well I finally finished installing my speed contol. It took way longer than I thought. It was a simple task but i ran into problems with both the ecm pins and extracting the pins from the steering wheel harness. In the end the speed control works, BUT... now my ESP/BAS light is on. I'm going to drive it for a while and see if it goes out. If not i'll take it to chrysler. I took a little extra time to tape up the main wiring harness in the front fender as well because I don't like seeing all those exposed wires.

A guy from Hawaii (the state with about 93 miles of interstate) tried to tell me cruise control was unnecessary and dangerous.

Only one mentally ill person in the plains states thinks that, and he has never driven a car.

Why? Can't the Hawaiian get it to brake automatically also???

PR is not that big either and I tell you, I use the CC when going from one city to the next all the time. Great gas and knee saver also.

Every so often I make my 360 mile commute with the Willys wagon. It gets so tiresome I need to drive with my left foot for a while. Tell me that isn't mote dangerous than just having cruise. Of course in that car there is so much room down on the floor under the dash you could darn near play basketball down there, so there is no danger of geting your feet tangled up making the switch.

I've been eying the Willys for a retrofit AMC cruise unit.

Ha ha!

In fact, I just came back from the dealership and they had a hard time doing the job. Specially with the programming stuff... It took them more than 3 hrs but now it work just fine!

I bought the Mopar speed control unit (paddle type) for my '07 Pat from a Jeep dealer on Ebay. It arrived without instructions (gasp!), but they pointed me to Mopar.com, and they had the installation documents there.

The instructions say if the three, critical wires are already in the harness under the hood, you can pass Go and move to Step 24 (or Step 20, depending which version of the instructions you have). I did have those wires, so I was able to just disconnect the negative battery wire and go immediately inside the vehicle and do the scary part: remove the steering wheel and air bag, unmount the horn return and springs, replace the shroud and add the control paddle, replace a small wire bundle, and manage to put it all back together without extra parts, broken plastic doohickeys, or getting to see the air bag deploy at close quarters.

The things I noted were that the instructions showed the springs on the horn to be loose, and mine had clips keeping them on (this was a good thing), and that the star drive bolts and screws were 25s, not the 30s the instructions called for.

It took just over an hour, mostly because I was scared shirtless that I'd break, overlook, lose, or forget something.

Putting the steering wheel back on was a bit scary, because at first it didn't seem to want to go back (I could not imagine having to explain that to my wife and a tow truck operator on the same day). Fortunately, it found the spot and slid in. Do remember to mark how your steering wheel was lined up before you take it off. I did, but I still wondered if I'd have to adjust it after I closed up.

Tested the horn and took her out on the road. Everything on the Speed Control works, and the "cruise" light even comes on on the dash. Car still steers properly, and the air bag didn't pop in my face as I drove.

I do have an engine picture light now. I read in one of the forums that that happened to someone else too, and that it went away after a short while. As my engine is running, and sounds and acts normal, I'm hoping it's because the battery was detached, and that the engine picture light will go away for me, too. I have a gas 2.4, and no dealer Star Scan was involved, but the instructions indicated it might be for the diesel version.

Still rollin'...

Let me dig up an older post here. Does anyone have the part numbers for the pieces in the kit. I have heard a couple of people say it is much cheaper to buy the stuff individually. They send extra stuff you don't need. I still have to check if my 09 is prewired. If it is then I only need the shroud and switch. Thanks in advance.
