Prepare for thy rant...

So turns out my '08 Pat has the full ESP-off problem that was released in a Technical Service Bulletin. I'm going camping this weekend and might do a bit of off roading in the process so I would like to be able to turn ESP off...

I'm in Canada and my Pat was a returned lease from the US. So because of this, the Chrysler dealer couldn't sell me te vehicle with a warranty (bogus in itself in my opinion, a Jeep's a Jeep regardless of its country of origin). So ok, I purchase a warranty from them.

Now here I am with a factory defect. I take the Jeep in to get it serviced TSB and warranty in-hand. They call the warranty holders and they say that it's not covered by them  and Jeep isn't covering it either! So to get it fixed I will have to pay out of my own pocket! Rediculous! I mean...

1. I'm sold a Jeep right off the lot that has a defect.

2. They outright state in a TSB that they know of this problem but aren't willing to fix it? Regardless of a warranty I believe if you know your product has a problem, you fix the @#$$%@# thing at your own expense.

3. I DO have a warranty which I had to purchase and it doesnt even cover this minor problem!

Sorry all, I love my Jeep but this is my first bad experience with any dealer and it may be my last of they don't clear this up.

I'm about to call the guy who sold me the Jeep and warranty and give him a piece of my mind. Wish me luck.

End rant.

TSBs have nothing to do with the OEM warranty or any aftermarket one. TSBs are often (always) issues by both the OEM and NHTSA for the US. TSBs are entered based on VIN. Your VIN is probably excluded from many things because of the circumstances. Hopefully, you got an exceptional price when you purchased it.

What kind of warranty did you purchase, Chrysler or a 3rd party?

What does the dealer what to charge for the 5 minutes it takes to reprogram the ESP module? Maybe you can negotiate this cost with them.

FWIW, unless you plan to do some rallye-style driving on gravel roads or on sand dunes, ESP Partial mode will be the same as ESP off.

I wasn't able to purchase a Chrysler warranty because it wasn't a Canadian vehicle, so I had to go 3rd party :s I'm looking over all the details of the warranty right now as to bumper-to-bumper or just powertrain, I do remember there were 3 tiers (bronze, silver, gold) of warranty and I got the best (gold) one. I see I have a $100 deductible but they won't cover anything. They told me it would be at least an hour maybe more.

All of the TSB's have a note at the bottom that they are "payable under the provisions of the warranty."

You bought an American vehicle in Canada...Chrysler doesn't honour warranties on vehicles that are imported from the states.

You then purchased a 3rd party warranty from somebody. (Dealer or not, it doesn't matter)

I don't understand why you bought this vehicle in the first place? The problem is not Jeep's problem, it might be the 3rd party warranty company's problem, but i doubt it, i can't see them covering TSBs, especially if they state that they don't cover them.

yeah, the factory warranty, assuming its still in effect, or hasn't been voided like this warranty has been, by being imported to Canada

None of that should matter on a TSB. I'd ask a different (better) dealer.

Regardless of my reasons for purchasing the vehicle, and buying a 3rd party warranty (it was that or nothing)...I'm just saying that from a buyers standpoint, personally I believe it is Jeeps problem if they sell something with a known defect. I realize there is all the warranty and legal mumbo jumbo that doesn't give a flying @%#$ about what I think. I just thought people these days are willing to take pride in what they sell and make their customers happy. Anyways, I'm going to try again at another dealership.

Just offering up an idea but have you tried calling a dealer in Washington state near the border to see if they would service the defect? Maybe worth the drive from Vancouver? Say you bought it from one of the dealers in Washington that are now out of business maybe?

Thats why there is a factory warranty, to cover problems that appear after release. No vehicle, ever, has been released and had no problems. If this was a Jeep that was originally sold in Canada you would have no problem with the warranty coverage. I've always been cautious about aftermarket warranties, and now I know why, they aren't as good as the factory warranty.

But yes, anyways, i hope that somewhere there is a dealer that is willing to help you with this.

Just pay the $100 if you want it repaired. Like APT said "unless you plan to do some rallye-style driving on gravel roads or on sand dunes, ESP Partial mode will be the same as ESP off"
Mine will not go into full off either, and even though there is a fix and it's covered under my warranty, I don't have any plans to get it fixed.

only problem is he would have is canadian plates but hopefully they won't care
