Look at the big front bumper. I´m totaly dissapointed about it. It´s way to close to the ground and the front angle is very low.
If someone would go offroad there is a good chance to destroy the bumper very fast.
I mailed daimler chrysler about my concerns but only got back a generic mail that DC doesn´t have any infos from Jeep about the final euro version.
But showing this Patriot at the last two car shows i get the feeling that the euro version would look like this.

this one looks like everyones van not a Jeep!

I realy like the Patriot but with such a front bumper i guess i may go for a Suzuki Grand Vitara.

I have been seeing that version of the Patriot on a lot of reviews after they stole it from an auto show posting... I hate it when car makers do this. It doesn't allow me (as an American) to fit in with the European populous very easily.

I'm sure you could eventually purchase the American version bumper and have it shipped to Europe. It's probably made of plastic, so it shouldn't be too heavy. The only question is if you would then get busted for not being in compliance of European pedestrian safety regulations after replacing the bumper.

I once had a cast steel grille for my 1969 Dodge Polara shipped from North Carolina to Seattle, and that thing was heavy.

Yeah thats really sad. I accually found a black used Pat with that bumper (sorry don't remember where) so it's pretty sure EU Pats are gonna have that bumper. Hopefully FDII Pats will have the North American bumper (if they'll even sell FDII's in Europe)

Wow, that is a pretty ugly bumper for sure. I wouldn't be surprised if it did have something to do with pedestrian protection laws. Kinda looks like an old-time train "cow-catcher"!

I don´t think it looks that way because of pedestrian protection.
I compared images of the Wrangler,Liberty,Commander and they looks the same US=Euro.
So there is no need to change the front bumper.

Look on the bright side: at least you can get the diesel.
Lol, yes but i could get any car with Diesel.
Hm, i still would like the US Design Pat here and i´m pretty sure not to go for a redesigned Pat and change the bumper afterwards. it´s not only the problem to get a US bumper but also to make it legal here wich might costs another few hundert euros not to mention that it needs to be painted in right color.

A 4x4 Limited Pat will cost about 30000$ here. Next add ad least 1000 for the US bumper. Well if so i come in the range of the price of a BMW X3 (wich has a higher resale value).

I just checked Jeep UK website and they have a mix of US and euro Pat style images. So it´s still not clear if Jeep will sell the euro version only or both.
Time will tell.

It is definately european pedestrian safety. The older cars don't have the blunt nose as they are not new designs. When a car is redesigned, it has to meet the pedestrian safety standards in europe. The blunt nose spreads the impact out over a larger area. A bumper sticking out translates into broken bones if you hit someone.

But why is only Jeep doing this with the Patriot ? The new Wrangler looks the same US=euro. The new Honda CR-V, Mitsubishi Outlander, Opel Antara (Saturn Vue 2008) didn´t come with such big bumpers!

Jeep just introduced the Pat in Austria. Guess it will do the same in Germany next days too.
And my nightmares comes true

Have a look about the ugly euro Pat Galerie:

Think the dream is over now.
(I still don´t understand it why they change the bumper.)

No Trail Rated CVT2 option for Europe ? Looks this way on the UK and German sites. Does anyone have any information on this ? Guess that means that we will get the same reduced choice of options when Jeep release it in Australia. Why do Jeep mess with what is working.

I believe Jeep may change the bumper to give it better aerodynamics to help its stability and fuel economy while used on the high speed German autobahns. I could be wrong, but thats why I believe they may be changing the bumpers. By the way Rends, I finally received mine yesterday so if you see a Silver 4x4 Sport out there honk and wave.

Chicken and the egg

I don't know. I have been hearing rumors that the original concept of the patriot was never meant for the US and it was to be strictly for marketing in the EU. That however got derailed when Daimler started to consider the sale of chrysler. If there is any truth to that, it could be the other way around and the US version was the redesign. That could change if CX/Jeep continues to market in the EU. I would think 2 design versions would be expensive to maintain.
