Hi. I really love the Patriot and want to buy one. When I "build and price" one on the Jeep website I get it equipped just like I want it and get a final price of a little less than $17,000. However when I do an inventory check of what local dealers have available, all the Pats are around $20,000 or higher, with some pushing towards the mid 20s. What?!?!

Where are all the cheap Patriots? Are these rare? I thought one of the main selling points of the Patriot was the great price - so even somewhat poor people like myself, could now afford a Jeep.

I guess ordering is an option, but my current car died on me on Monday, so I really need to get a new car within the next week. I really don't have the luxury to wait a couple months for one to arrive. I have my heart set on a Pat and really don't want to have to resort to plan B (Caliber, PT Cruiser or Civic)
Thanks, Dee.

It is puzzling! >>

I was also frustrated by this, not able to find a 4x4 less than 20K within 200 miles. I have yet to see a 4x4 without air and auto on any dealer lot and maybe saw one or two 4x2 under 18K. Ordering is an option or you can ask the dealer to search by your parameters and they might locate one you missed. Good luck!

I have found this same scenario too, after building and pricing on the jeep website cant find anything near that price with spec I want.

Have managed to find a few vehicles in other states, does anyone know what the situation is with regards to your local dealer obtaining a Jeep from a Jeep dealer in another state. Is there added costs or is this common practice ?

Some Base Models Down South

I am starting to just now see basic models showing up in Florida. I have seen base 5 speeds and CVT models (with the 2.0) with AC and floor mats as the only options. However, most of what is on the lot, and probably what sells, have been between 18-21K. I was choosing between a Caliber and a Patriot and still like both, but glad I went with the Jeep. I like the size better, the darker interior colour and resale are what sold me. Do what you need to get what you want, because you will be happier afterwards. A car is a huge outlay and never a good thing to compromise on if you can help it.

The issue with the Patriot is three fold:

1) The production line got started very late (February 2007) keeping inventory low
2) The switch to 2008 models soon as slowed delivery to the dealer to keep up inventory
3) The huge popularity of the Patriot is keeping them off the lots. Everyone is looking into them and / or buying one

Talk with a dealer and see if they can help you locate the vehicle of your dreams. There are some out there for sure - it'll just take some leg work to find the correct one.

the more and more i read threads on this board it sounds like i got EXTREMELY lucky that my dealer had exactly what i wanted (with the exception of color - originally wanted green but was ok with the red) on their lot when i showed up. my lease on my old car was set to expire in Sept, but i had a hunch that the Patriot would be hugely popular and that i shouldn't wait because i didn't want to have to settle on something i didn't want, and it sure seems like that was the right choice...

as for the original question, i would suggest having a dealer do the leg work to try to locate what you want. while jeep.com shows a lot of their stock, there are a TON of dealers that don't have their inventory listed. your dealer will be able to track down if what you want is on somebody's lot somewhere.

I'll be the odd-man out here and recommend buying a Patriot off the dealer's lot that is CLOSEST to your requirements. Even if it has more options than you planned. If you have access to a group buying plan, (like Costco's) go through that plan to buy the vehicle. As the already low inventory of 07's drops, and the demand rises, don't expect dealers to bargain on the price... these purchase programs really help the buyer.

The money you save by going through a purchase program will help close the gap between what you wanted to pay and what you will actually pay. So what starts out as a $3000 differential, may actually end up only being a $1500 difference.

DJP i've been looking at a lot of dealerships in Florida and cant find a 4x4 sport manual 5 anywhere. The base model 5's you've been seeing, are they at dealers or on the road? Getting very impatient now as the only manual 5 4x4 I could find after hours of internet searching is in Colorado. Not sure if the local Florida dealers are able to obtain the vehicles from other dealers lots. Anyone shed some light?

I did that build and price my Jeep. I then did a search. At that time there was nothing in a 60 mile radius. I then went to autotrader and look around the state of Oregon. I knew I wanted to spend less than $20,000. I knew my price for what I wanted was $18,100. Everything I found was close, but came in 4x4, 5 speed, the nice stereo system. I couldn't find the auto, 4x2. I think now after I ordered mine I've seen one 4x2. I've noticed now that more Patriots are slowly hitting the lots.

prices

I found most dealers order the 4x4 with the automatic transmission. So don't wait to stumble into one on the lot. I would talk to someone and order one. And don't get caught up in the moment of them pushing the one on the lot at ya because they want to get paid that day not 2 months from now. good luck

So SMJPG is only finding 4 X 4's with 5 speeds in Oregon, and PatriotKmc can only find 4 X 4's with a CVT in Florida. I may have to confess something here that has altered the dynamics of these two states on account of me. I live in Florida, and I met my Oregonian wife of three years on eHarmony and the two states have never been the same since she left and moved here. The first thing was that our house was hit by 4 hurricanes within months of her moving in. Then bears started showing up in more numbers than I have ever heard of in Florida. I told her that they are following her from Oregon and calculated the timeline of them walking here. Then we had more shark and alligator attack reports than I have ever seen in my 30 plus years here. I could go on, but things have calmed down and I don't want to stir it up again.

PatriotKmc, you should probably order one. I had looked a while back, and now I can hardly find a 5 speed anything in Central Florida. I bought mine off a lot and spent $700 more than I needed to, because I would have been happy to skip the power package, but it was bundled with everything else I wanted and I knew I would enjoy the extra options as long as they were options I would use. Most people would not buy a car without power locks, mirrors and windows.

Agree with what you are saying DJP but dealers are saying cant order a 2007 model now so would have to order a 2008 model which is fine I'd love to just do that but dont know the pricing.

I'm intending on shipping this beauty to Europe so have also got shipping costs which have gone into my budget.

Dont mind paying a little more for some extras that I hadn't chosen originally on the jeep website, but getting $1500-ÂŁ2000 increase from my original budgeted price.

The search continues, there must be a 4x4 manual tranmission Pat out there somewhere with my name on it.:smiley_thumbs_up:
